We moved recently and I received a 10% off card for a single register tape total from Home Depot.

I read the back of the card very carefully to make sure I understood all the Exclusions completely. The exclusions never mentioned Disney gift/entertainment cards. They listed oodles of other things including "Home Depot Gift Cards" but no others.

I tried to purchase the Disney ones and the computer/register would not allow the discount. I asked for a manager and she stated she could not override the register and that the fine print should have said "all gift cards" or just "gift cards".

I am none too pleased with Home Depot right now! :sad1:

:confused3 You really thought they were going to give you 10% off the Disney gift card??

This is quoted from the back of mover's coupon in 2006.
"This offer is not valid on labor, installations including products furnished by At-Home Services (roofing, siding, windows, hvac), gift cards, with any other discount, or on prior purchases. This offer is not valid on John Deere and selected Maytag products including Neptune, Gemini, and wide-by-side. Max deduction is $200."

The current coupon does not say this! It is much more detailed and does not say "gift cards".

I will dig it out of my purse tomorrow and type in what it now says.

And yes I thought they would allow me to purchase the Disney cards with the discount!

Here are the listed exclusions from the back of the card:

"This offer is valid and redeemable for a discount of up to $200.00 on a single receipt in-store purchase at all U.S. The Home Depot@ stores. **This offer cannot be combined with any other discount, offer, promotion or special incentive program and is not valid on: (a) repairs, labor, or Self-Furnish and Install ("SF&I") and Furnish and Install ("F&I") program products, including without limitation roofing, windows, siding, HVAC products, custom closets, storage solutions, installed sheds or structures; (b) the purchase of The Home Depot Gift Cards or Certificates; (c) Penske truck rentals; (d) prior purchases; (e) Consumer Electronics (including, but not limited to, televisions, DVD players, speakers, home theaters, cellular phones, etc.), John Deere, Cub Cadet, Little Giant Ladder Systems@, Thermador@, in select markets, Gaggenau@, Miele@, Dacor@, Viking@, Fisher&Pakel@, Sharp Insight, Delonghi@, Casablanca; or (f) purchases from any The Home Depot affiliate store. Offer is not valid for payment on any The Home Depot credit account. No credit if offer refused. Cash value 1/20th of 1 cent. See store for further details and a full listing of SF&I and F&I products and complete details. We reserve the right to limit quantities to the amount reasonable for our regular customers. @2013 Homer TLC, Inc. All rights reserved."

The "@" symbol I used after brand names is in place of the "registered" "r" in a circle symbol because I could not figure out how to type it!

There is nothing in all that that mentions other store brand gift cards. It only speaks directly about "The Home Depot Gift Cards".

So what exactly are you trying to accomplish? You attempted to use a discount on something Home Depot did not intend to allow, you spoke to the manager and she refused to apply the discount. Most stores, even some states, do not allow discounts on gift cards/entertainment cards.

Sorry it didn't work for you but I would believe that the intent of the offer was to entice purchase of hard goods from your local Home Depot, not gift cards for a Disney trip.

I'd have to agree with pp's. The situation with Target is a loophole and not the norm with most stores.

This is covered in the "see store for further details" portion. Most coupons do not list every single exclusion.

My husband is a department head at Home Depot, and he said that no, they cannot override the register to give you that discount. And no, it's not intended for buying GCs of any kind. They usually will bend over backwards to do what the customer asks. He doesn't know I'm saying this, but if you call the corporate number and complain, they'll probably help you out.

He also said you can get those cards at the post office, and some people (not you OP) will try to use them all the time, hence the wording about regular customers. I would imagine that has a lot to do with all the restrictions. A few bad apples always ruin it for the rest of us!

Good luck OP, I hope corporate can help you out! :goodvibes
