This. Every time I watch, I'm amused by how laissez faire the police are when the mom calls and asks them to check on Kevin. But then I remember that's how things were then. When I was little, our neighborhood had what my mom jokingly called a "toddler gang." Bunch of kids from barely walking to maybe 4 or 5, running the streets all night committing petty crimes. My mom actually did call the cops one bitterly cold night, because none of the kids had so much as a light jacket. And the dispatcher just laughed and said what, do you want us to arrest a bunch of toddlers? Different times for sure.
Back on topic, no, I don't think any court would side with the Wet Bandits then or now. Kevin was defending his home, and he was 8 years old. They were adults committing a felony. Pretty sure that would be the end of the story.
