Home Alone question.

And I suspect Child Protective Services would be involved too with the parents for leaving him Home Alone.
This. Every time I watch, I'm amused by how laissez faire the police are when the mom calls and asks them to check on Kevin. But then I remember that's how things were then. When I was little, our neighborhood had what my mom jokingly called a "toddler gang." Bunch of kids from barely walking to maybe 4 or 5, running the streets all night committing petty crimes. My mom actually did call the cops one bitterly cold night, because none of the kids had so much as a light jacket. And the dispatcher just laughed and said what, do you want us to arrest a bunch of toddlers? Different times for sure.

Back on topic, no, I don't think any court would side with the Wet Bandits then or now. Kevin was defending his home, and he was 8 years old. They were adults committing a felony. Pretty sure that would be the end of the story.

The lack of Police response in the movie struck me too, but I had an entirely different reaction. The movie was in 1990. I was in a Sheriff's Department Explorer post 1973-1975 and as scouts we were often called upon to assist in searches for missing kids. So at least here, no way that would have been brushed off. It would have been a big response of people.

Wow, that's interesting how different it was in different parts of the country!
