Personally, I come here to escape reality. But, I don't go around telling people not to ask for prayers and pixie dust; I just skip over threads I know will depress me more. When someone says my dog died, my family member died, etc. etc. I don't tell them to create a grief board for these people. This is a community board listed under "Just for Fun"

I think we need more fun, less judgements and debates.

There are several message boards that have been established thanks to a close relationship started on the DIS and a desire to have more personal conversations/a deeper relationship with those people. And many of them don't have their own personal dis clique thread.
I don't understand why all of a sudden taking your mini community and moving it to its own bb or sub-board is such a travesty It's not like you can't post on the DIS if you post with your friends elsewhere. I don't understand why it's so unreasonable to ask people to post their exclusionary chit-chat and inside jokes someplace other than the main CB and to not hijack threads with their personal jokes either.


If someone is asking for advice or opinions, it's pretty damn annoying and rude when the thread turns into people posting pictures of cyber drinks just because they've lost interest in the original topic. That has been happening more and more.

I don't know. If a lot of people vocalize concerns and disapproval with a behavior I'm doing, then I'm going to step back and go hmm. maybe I should cut back on whatever I'm doing that is irritating so many people. Seems like there are a lot of people annoyed/upset/irritated by the hijacking and the over abundance of clique threads and yet none of the guilty parties seems to be even remotely interested in even the possibility that they might need to tone it down.

As for spam, if posting a number of different topic fluff threads in a short period of time is spam, then I guess it is done on a regular basis here and nothing has ever been said about, and apologize for assuming it was fine. I just was doing as others I have seen.

You posted a dozen or so very similar threads at the same time. That is considered spamming the board--a single e-mail address sending out tons and tons of e-mails at once is called spam. What you did took up space and disrupted the board. Spam has nothing to do with the topic. One would have assumed you knew that.

I haven't been here as long as some posters, but have seen a significant change in the boards since I got here a few years ago. And it's not just because the boards have grown so large. It's because the boards have turned into a free for all, with no rhyme or reason for why threads are deleted, or locked or people are banned, while the real problems remain. I don't bother reporting posts. I tried a couple years ago, and despite the fact that people were being attacked the thread remained open for weeks. So why bother if no one is actually going to listen?
I don't have a problem with the cliques, to a point. If they want their own threads, all the power to them. But it's rediculous that there are so many of them everywhere, especially since half of them are for the same group. It doesn't matter what kind of thread it is, a significant amount of them are getting hijacked now, or turning into fights. We have posts with no point all over the place. The CB has changed. And I don't like it (the board not the changes) nearly as much as I did.
I do agree with Dan, and I agree with the point he's trying to make and even how he made it. It's not the fluff posts that are the problem, it's the absolute crap that's filling up the place.

Don't know what all the fuss is about here and don't really care.. The DIS has changed quite a bit since I first found it and I'm sure it will change even more in the future.. By now we should all know that "nothing ever stays the same"..

Where is it being hijacked? All I see here is people giving their opinions to what the OP posted. It sounds to me that certain so called old timers what to keep things the way they used to be and don't like some of the new posters. I'm tired of hearing about how the board used to be. I think you have a valid point. But just because it was done before doesn't really make it right. Its probably best to steer clear of hijacking threads, no matter how great the urge or what has been done in the past.

The only difference between that board and PMs here at the DIS is that you don't have to have the same conversation 5 times in a PM to different people. Chances are what you see at other boards is what people's so called friends are PMing to each other behind their backs here at the DIS.
