Well, who would have thought they had their own board--I always thought they couldn't possibly have their own board with the time they spend here on the DIS going back and forth about nothing, passing the cyber drinks, etc., etc., etc. I'm betting that is what Blondie thought also. How could anyone possibly have sooo much time on their hands! :confused3 :rotfl:

Yeah no kidding. :rotfl:

um .... maybe they are like me, work from home, self employed, and there is this thing called slack/down time, while you are waiting on the phone to ring :rolleyes1

I may have posted this before, and it is no way directed at Brenda (a fellow Adriana Triggiani fan! :) )--it's just answering the posed question.

Speaking as someone who suffers from what is called Alpha-sleep disturbance, where I will go for months without getting more than 2-3 hours of sleep per night (if I fall asleep at all), I can tell you that I have plenty of time to post here and elsewhere--and sometimes at three in the morning when no one else is here but me. Then again, I've also been known to bake bread and clean out my fridge at that time of the night too, so I guess I am someone with a lot of time on my hands. That's my reason, and I'm sure others have theirs. :)

*Unintended hijack--Brenda, I just picked up Rococo from the library Monday, and so far I'm really enjoying it! :thumbsup2

What is confusing is, if they have their own board, why take up so much space here? Stay on your own private board and drink away.

Oh, c'mon! Those of you saying "How can they have so much time for 2 boards?" know that you post at 2 boards too. :thumbsup2

Maybe they want to make more friends. Maybe not everyone from the DIS can access the new board. You do realize the drinking is a joke, right? Don't you ever have a bad day and say "I could use a beer" but then not drink one?

I think most people here know how the powers feel about Dan RM. It isn't a  relationship and hasn't been for a long time. People that have been banned here in the past have deserved it because they were quite nasty over and over again. Dan is hardly nasty to the posters here. He is usually supportive and caring with a few "calling them as he sees them" thrown in there. Judi was the only one I can think of who was banned and most of us didn't understand why. The rest say they just state the facts but they really were nasty.

I agree with Dan's point about this topic, but his actions recently were just more of the same.

If the definition of ""calling them as he sees them" includes his posts on threads he doesn't approve of, about topics he doesn't approve of, or about the people he doesn't approve of, then I guess nobody around here is nasty. Everybody just calls them as the see them.

Some people have fake drinks, but Doesney just has fake personalities. I'd rather be an imaginary drinker than need to have to make up fake identities and troll around.

Well if you know so much about what is being said on their threads, it would appear you have enough time to read them also. I think there are alot of people here with too much time on their hands to talk about and judge other people.

There is an ignore feature, as well as a way to see all the threads you are subscribed to. There is no need to "wade thru" all the threads you find annoying.

And what you consider "nothing" is a healthy outlet for people who have very real stress in their lives and come here to joke around with people they have found they can have fun with.

Isn't that the truth. We can all say anything we darn please and just say that we were calling it as we see it.

Personally, I'm tired of being judged by Dan and having my posts, and the posts of others, being called sophomoric, etc, when he's the one who has elected to do the clicking. It's not as if what we were saying had anything to do with him--he decided to be the moral police. Anyone who finds 6 threads/posts a week to report is looking for trouble. There is no way that I've found 6 to report on the Community Board in the 2 years that I've been reading here. I realize that my standards are looser ;) , but still! I don't go looking for trouble and it doesn't tend to find me. Sometimes I find something that bothers me, but I tend to move on if I see something I don't like and only get worked up if I see something truly offensive (as in racist, etc).

::yes:: ::yes:: (not just trying to up my post count: you are just so much more articulate than I could ever be!!!!!!!!

How is a joke being called sophomoric worse than you calling someone judgemental?

I remember the thread where he used the word sophomoric. I thought it was a lighthearted comment and agreed with him, but people took strong offense and turned the whole thread into a Dan attack. Everyone uses sophomoric humor at times, I think most people recognize it as such.

For example, if I used potty humor - which I've been known to do on occasion - I wouldn't be offended if someone called it sophomoric. It is! I guess the word "silly" is okay, but "sophomoric" isn't?

So now this is becoming a 'let's discuss what's wrong with Dan' thread? Nice.
No, I think it is just to point out (to borrow from someone I know )...pot, kettle. There are threads of all kinds on the CB. Some could be moved to so many other places. For an example, some people come here and post their trip report threads, but isn't the trip report board more appropriate? But yet their threads remain. Some people post transportation questions here, even though there is a transportation board, and yet their posts remain. There is a community here, some things some people like, some things some people dislike. It's not really a big deal until it is made into a big deal.

Lots of good thoughts, ideas and comments here, and good to see lots of various opinions and input. :thumbsup2 Great seeing some follks showing up that have not been around much of late; always a good discussion to bring out lost DIS'ers. And for those wishing a good 4th, it was, thanks....4F's family, friends, food, fireworks. Hope yours was also.

Just thought I would address a few thoughts brought out here........

As one who's made it clear that you despise the "fluff" threads, the threads were spam and an obvious attempt to be disruptive.....
wmkathy, you make it clear I despise 'fluff' threads, or I make it clear? I certainly don't despise those, and I would say that some large number of my posts over the past 7 plus years have been nothing but fluff. Fluff is good for the soul, lightens it up some. Oftentimes I have just tried to start a fluff thread to bring a smile or two here. As for spam, if posting a number of different topic fluff threads in a short period of time is spam, then I guess it is done on a regular basis here and nothing has ever been said about, and apologize for assuming it was fine. I just was doing as others I have seen. Again, apologies given.
WebmasterAlex said:
...Seriously it's been talked about at the highest level. There are a lot of reasons pro and can and it might happen.
Dan you are allowed to talk about suggestions you feel will improve the boards. What we generally don't allow is debates over specific incidents like why is so and so allowed to do such and such.
That is good to know, Alex. And certainly I do know the second point, part of the basic DIS board guidelines.

Holy Moly! How do you possibly find 6 a week to report? I've been here at least 6 years, either posting or as a lurker, and have maybe reported 6 posts in 6 years!.....
Ann, I suppose all that good OTJT I had as a moderator (and for the die-hards out there now, all together.....'when I was a moderator' :cool1:....sorry, still have not found another way to frame a time period being referenced :confused3) some years back makes things jump out at me I guess; not sure. I will say though that most of the time it is just simple bypassing the word filter here, which I recall wmalex indicating some time back is a big no-no. I do tend to report posts that violate the guidelines, as we have been asked to do for years here by the PTB. Other than that, Ann, no answer, sorry. :confused3

LOL, CD, yep, still have my job, financial planner, 30 years. I'd offer my services, but as yet, not licensed in Voyaging on the Beagle. SEC/NASD says we can't practice where not licensed. As for the moderator deal, see above, and no thank you, been there, done that.

Happy 4th! I hope you guys have a great holiday!

I'm stuck at work, but not for long...although there is a strom blowing outside of Biblical proportion...maybe I can volunteer for even more double OT holiday pay!

Anyway - have a great day buddy!
Matt, long time no see, good to see you around again. I recall you being one of Judi's favorite posters. And hope that storm blew over. Take care.

......I've seen multiple spammings of this board (usually late at night on the weekends) the threads were similar to the ones that were created last night. Which is probably why some are calling it a spamming (once again, I remain neutral) I've also posted on more message boards than I care to remember and any time this has happened, the threads were deleted and the poster removed.
Now on to my point.
if a newer, lesser known poster created teh same threads, what would have happened to them, and what would have happened to them when they made this thread, with something resembling an attack on a well known poster? (and we all know who I'm talking about here. and if you don't, I don't want to be accused of stirring the pot, so I might not respond to a pm questioning who)

Everyone has an opinion, which is why message boards thrive. and I will discount no opinion, and I will make no attack. and I probably won't respond to an attack made towards me.

I pmed dan last night, because I was wondering waht was going on, and he responded with somethign similar to what this thread is basically saying, and named the poster he didn't name this time around.

once again, I do noot mean this as an attack and if you chose to take it that way, i'm sorry.

just food for thought.
Shelby, the posts made were made in the spirit of fluff, not spam; though have been told they were. As for the other poster, had not even thought about that poster until I saw the threads that were posted were closed. Then, and only then, did that poster come to mind, as I was surprised to see the threads closed in short order when similar happens quite often here with no problems. Just food for thought. And OT here, I must say you have always been very adult in your thinking and posting here, said it before, and say it again, mom sure can be proud. :thumbsup2

And again, thanks for keeping it nice, it is still open. :thumbsup2

Honestly, it depends on how it's used. If it's in a joking way, it's one thing. When it's said in a "you are being bad, don't behave that way or you're going to get in trouble" that's different." If a mod or WM tells me (or others--I'm not just talking about things towards me--most of what I've seen has not been towards me directly) that something is not appropriate, that is one thing. In general, I do not believe it's up to a poster to tell another poster that something is not appropriate. Maybe a mod or WM could weigh in here.

And for the longest time I thought it was joking and I couldn't understand why some people had a beef with the whole issue.

Sorry if this is hurried--laundry is waiting. :)

I missed it again. Nothing new.

Hope you had a Happy 4th, Dan! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: Close enough to fireworks. LOL!
