So Friday before the hurricane hit, my husband and I looked up some cruise possibilities, and chose 2 different dates (same itinerary), in the 7300-7900 range, but we have a placeholder cruise so was expecting a little discount. Contacted my travel agent and she got back to me right away with a "they're closed so I'll get back to you". Which was understandable. 2 days later on the website the price is 8700-9300 for the same cruise and her prices are in the 8300ish. Guess I should have booked on that Friday....no cruise for me. Not for a 7 day western Caribbean....

Sorry but over 1,000 a night for the carribean is extremely excessive like ridiculous for a cruise line

I hope you guys find the cruise for you!!!

I rather imagine that a number of cruises jumped a bit in price with the people who were rebooking cancelled/changed cruises this week. As the space fills, the prices rise.

That's the crazy part, inside cabins in July. I know summer is more expensive but that price for no window or balcony is crazy!

I believe it, but agree that is really crazy. I think PrincessShmoo has it though, There are likely several thousand people who rebooked over the last week and July is a popular time (with few hurricane concerns).

Sigh, I remember when that itinerary during the 4th of July and booked 6 months out only cost $4000 including airfare for 2 people in an inside room. But that was a long time ago...

That is the one thing I wish I could change about thr cruise industry. A price should just be a price regardless of how popular it becomes.
It's not a unique pricing structure to the cruise industry though. Airlines, hotels, car rental agencies all follow the same model. If all those industries were to go to a fixed price model, I think you'd find higher prices across the board. DCL is somewhat unique due to having only 4 ships and a relatively steady demand for their product.

Looking at your screen name, I am wondering for how many that price is? If you have 5 kids, that could be potenially 7 people in 2 cabins?

Someone in our Oct 7th cruise meet group screen shot-ted the same phenom in February. We were given the 20% discount and before we could book the price had gone up over 20%. She's got shots of before and after pricing a day apart.

Wow, that IS crazy! Interesting fall out from the Hurricane with thousands rebooking. Summer prices are crazy. We're fortunate enough to be able to cruise in the off-season but I know many aren't. We have a 7 night western carribean booked for 3 people in March for only $4400, in a navigators verandah. Also, this is a prime example of why I never use a TA. I don't see the sense in waiting for someone to get back to me, when I know what I want and can just click "Book" on the website. I know this doesn't help the OP but might help someone else who is reading this thread and looking for advise.

I wonder if you called Disney and explained the situation, if they would honor the original pricing? Doesn't hurt to ask. I would assume that the pricing model is an automatic thing that goes up as certain booking thresholds are reached.

That's free enterprise at its finest. When the Toyota Prius first was introduced in the early 2000's, there was a wait list and you paid full sticker period. The price for produce is constantly going up and down based on weather conditions. Economics 101.

If you've got the 20% discount due to the recent hurricane situation, the price of the new cruise should be the price it was when you made your original booking (on the cancelled/changed cruise). Not the current price (with any increases). Does that make sense?

It absolutely does, but I'm not seeing that with many who are rebooking ( per the M&G group that I'm in).

According to my TA today, the price I saw on the website on Friday couldn't possibly have been correct. She said that must have been a computer glitch. But I wrote it down so I could have a gage when I talked to her. Oh well, I'm not spending that kind of money for that itinerary and cabin. Sorry Disney, not this time!

We also found most of the summer to be untouchable price-wise. Our solution was to go the last full week of August, otherwise known as right before school started. Not perfect, but it saved us more than $1000 per cabin. So to us, it was worth the inconvenience.

Now, maybe your kids are already back in school by then. In which case, maybe the first week they are out of school in June? (if they start early, maybe they end early.) Again, not optimal, but you can sometimes save a lot of money by doing what others won't because it isn't optimal, which makes it perfect!
