Holy Diagon Alley Batman!

And by doing Avatar right, it means not cutting the budget to eliminate the boat ride... It means doing it right... If it's going to take almost a decade from announcement to completion, it better have spent the $500 Million wisely.

:furious:

...they already cut the boat ride...???

If universal completes the third stage of Harry Potter before Disney does avatar . Wow! Right now universal seems to be what Disney was in the 90's. Build build build !!

"Only a few concepts previously announced are moving forward, but in a downsized format. Avatarland for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, it appears, has now been scaled back to one flying simulator ride, a handful of shops, and a restaurant. ...Also canned are any plans to do much of anything with Disney’s Hollywood Studios in WDW, or even consider anything for years at WDW’s Magic Kingdom once the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opens next month."

This infuriates me. I want to use some naughty words but I know that's not allowed.

Seriously, this is insane. They don't want to do ANYTHING ANYWHERE except for ONE ------- ride in Animal Kingdom 3 years in the future that was supposed to be a whole area???

What are they doing!!????
Why do they not want to spend money on attractions!!????

Sorry... rant over.

What's the source of that information? Because I'm reluctant to believe anything outright.

Again, much of that is rumor and conjecture based upon the increased spending required for Shanghai Disneyland as well as the reported major cost overruns for My Magic+

Can you imagine the uproar it would cause if they created a huge line then tried to sell expensive bottled water to their captives? ;) So glad they get how awful that would be.

I know right? When I read that my first thought was someone at US is doing a little

Yeah, design has been green lit, but the budget had been put on hold, maybe that is changing... But the results are needed here.

Obviously, with American Idol closing up shop in January, we see a potential for something coming to DHS. But still, it appears movement is very, very slow.

No, the board of directors green lit the project late last month. That's when the Idol news broke because they are clearing way for the land. It's all there in that article.

I guess as long as the parks are full they will just keep getting by on the cheap. If attendance starts taking a hit then they will put it in gear. Why spend when people are coming anyway :confused3

I want all the stuff for Star Wars at Disney.

However is it bad that I really want them to finish the Parking Garages at DTD.

Oh man... we have been putting off a trip until everything was built and the frenzy died down a bit... It they are putting in another section, that's going to delay it EVEN MORE!!! Man... I really want to go there!!!

Just go. Stop stopping yourself. It was awesome with just Hogsmeade, it will be awesome with Diagon. Don't wait until it's all done and perfect. Just GO.

The problem with Gringotts is that UOR had an aggressive construction schedule that it really ended up needing a few month months for test and adjust... As an engineer, this would be incredibly frustrating; however, UOR wanted direct Summer competition with Disney and they now have it... No one is talking about the Mine Train that opening in the Magic Kingdom, are they?

In this case, their aggressive scheduling has hurt them a bit PR-wise. However, the rest of Diagon Alley has drawn incredible reviews.

Doesn't hurt PR-wise. It's part of a new attraction. Radiator Springs still has hours of downtime, sometimes still doesn't open at opening-time in the morning, and there's no bad press about it. It is what it is. These rides are finicky. RSR has to stop if a hat blows onto the tracks. I'm sure it's similar issues with Gringott's. And the morning, pre-opening closures, happen with RSR as well. Mysterious, but again, they are finicky.

:) Could be. Could also be that the CMs at MK who were the ones to sell the water are also the TMs over at Universal and their managers listened to them. Or Universal saw the kerfluffle about selling the water and decided to learn from the error.

This Shanghai thing mystifies me. DH was there for a work trip a few months back and could barely breathe. On a 2 week trip between there and Beijing he saw two birds. That's it. Even the birds don't want to live there. He doesn't have lung problems, ever, and he had a bout of asthma-like symptoms one day while getting food. He bought and wore the face masks that many residents wear. He used to LOVE China and now he has no interest in going back, and especially not for a themepark where you are outside, or going in and out of buildings, all day!

Well, obviously something is going to be done at Studios... However, I'll wait to pop the champagne until there are shovels in the ground.

Like with Avatar. Would have never thought it was going to happen until the major work for New Harambe was underway.

The whole Shanghai thing has all the makings of a big mess... Will it be a lovely park? Yes. Will people be able to survive in it when it open? Who knows...

Well that's good... I thought it was more official.

I guess I can go back to being a Disney cheerleader. :cheer2:

MiceAge/MiceChat also said that the Nemo subs out in DL were going to close permanently, but a re-open date was just announced recently, so I tend to take everything they say with a boulder of salt.

Hmm... excellent point. I mean, the least popular WDW park handily beats Universal's most popular park. But I guess we'll see if that changes this year.
