Holy Cow! What a disappointment!!

I will have to say we were disappointed as well with our first visit. I just think this place could be so much better with a little better management. We waited for 45 minutes past our ADR time just to be seated and we did arrive early. Our service was slow and we had two waiters (for just 5 of us). Our waiters were constantly moving, so I don't think they were slow, they just had too much to do. I love potatoes, but I'd never had them here. I enjoyed the noodles, the pork dumplings were awesome!! I hated that meats were served seperately. We were quite full and really just ready to go by the time we were given shrimp. We had hoped to get to MK that night to see Tinker bell and missed her by 5 minutes. I just think everything tasted good, it just needs a better system. I'd like my meats to all be brought out at the same time, this would have made the meal go faster and the turnover better. I would still recommend it to someone. I'm glad we went, it just may not be a repeat meal.

Hey Clotho, in my opinion, I would look to what other people have to really rave about at this point in time and go from there....Wait until folks start to go and are able to post, "Hey, just got back and due to SEVERE popular demand, 'Ohana's went back to fabulously, deliciously normal!!!" and then go right on ahead and make reservations then!!!

Good luck!

We ate at OHana our last trip, and it was a good dining experience for our then 10 year old DS. But we had ADRs for 8pm, arrived about 15 minutes early, and then waited until about 9:20 to be seated. In fact, DH was just going up to the hostess stand to tell them to take us off the list because we were leaving, when our name was called.

What happened was that DH told them how it was my birthday trip and wanted a window so that's what was taking so long. We ended up getting a wonderful seat, great view of the fireworks, and so it was worth the wait even though the food was just kind of so-so to us.

I had specifically told our server that I'm allergic to shellfish, and nobody else likes it, so that wouldn't even need to be brought out. She brought out a gigantic plate of it anyway, it sat there untouched until she brought another full plate! From what I remember, DS loved the turkey.

So I'm glad we ate there once, but we won't be eating there again. At least not in the near future!

Forget the veggies, the meat selection was the best I've had short of Texas De Brazil! Fine food, I'll be back regardless of how the potatoes have been turning out.

I have Ohana booked twice for our Christmas trip:santa: the first and last day.:surfweb: Hope I like it, so are you all tipping 18% or more for poor service? Just wondering, if I get poor service anywhere it will be reflected in the tip.:surfweb:

If you are a party of a certain size, can't remember the number or if you are using the DDE discount, 18% tip is automatically added regardless of how good or bad the service is. If you get outstanding service you can add more, but you can't take away. Unless you made a big stink then I'm maybe they would lower the tip?

We had a fabulous dinner at Ohana in Sept. It was our favorite meal of the trip. The service was fantastic and we loved everything on the menu- the noodles were one of our faves!

I am sure it all depends on how busy they are, who your waiter is, etc. but for us it was such a fun meal!

I am sorry about your disappointing dining experiences. I'm hoping for some better luck when we visit in Jan. I have to say I also notice that many of the menus seem similar. Except for the more upscale locations, the fish always seems to be some type of Salmon or Red Snapper, neither of which I eat (I only like white fish generally, bass/flounder/halibut/grouper/etc..). And of course the ubiquitous kids menu - chicken soup, hot dog, burger, mac & cheese. Pick 3 for $7.59!!! My son is under 2, so of course he's ok with chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, and mac. But I would hope that by the time he is 5, he would want a little more variety.

We are a party of 4 on the deluxe dinning plan and paying cash for all tips.pirate: So are they going to wrestle me down to the floor for a tip after getting bad or poor service?:scared1: Thanks:santa:

We do 'Ohana every trip. We enjoy the meal. Although last time, the service was a bit disappointing. We know to allow at least a good, full hour (usually more). I have no problem getting up and finding any server to refill our drinks now. I used to sit and wait calmly and very dry mouthed. I always give a restaurant the benefit of having a bad day. If they disappoint me twice, we usually skip it for a while!

Sorry you got the off day!!

DH and I just ate at Ohana's on 10-17-08. Service and food was very good. In fact I would even say it was excellent. I am a potato lover so I do miss the Maui scalloped potatos very much. To me the noodles were just ok, but DH loved them. With all of the choices offered at this dinner, you will never leave there hungry by skipping a few of the dishes. Our wait staff was very efficient and very generous with the meat offerings. We definately hit it on a good night.

Becasue there were only two of us dining, many of the serving dishes were taken away with quite a lot of food still left in them. (we never even touched the bread). I was feeling guilty about it and then our waiter told us the left overs help feed the lions???? I don't know if he was serious?

Don't tell the kids.... but both DH and I find that lady entertainer with the ukulele very annoying. But that did not stop us from enjoying the food.

Sorry about your experience. I suppose that it can be said for all restaurants, some like it and some don't.

I guess I'm probably in the minority, but I love the new menu  . I was my favourite before, but now, we cannot go to Disney without eating there at least twice. My whole family loves the noodles, my son (9) and daughter (3) usually finishes it before my husband and I can get a second helping. We love the spicy shrimp and all the other meats. (Flame suit on). We never did like the sausage, potatoes or the wonton chips (I found it too salty). I really love the new menu. I also love the new salad and broccoli.

However, I can empathize. If they removed the noodles and shrimp, I think I will be disappointed in it.

My hubby I think has a crush on the ulklele lady! I tried to take it off our list for Jan. to try something new, but hubby says, "It's a tradition." Prefer the potatoes to the noodles, but they were fine! LOVE the steak! Our last trip there in May, we had one of the first ADR's, the restaurant was empty, we had great service, and the kids fell asleep in the double stroller while we were walking around the hotel, so we had the most wonderful, peaceful meal! :rotfl: And the kids got ice cream for dinner back at the hotel! We were ALL happy!!:rotfl2:

Ohana's was fantastic!!! We were there Oct 5th for the first time. There's a reason it's so hard to get a ressie! Would have preferred potatoes, but the noodles were better than I expected. The wings were really good, and I'm a bit sqeamish about floppy skin--these were nice and crispy. The wontons were my least favorite. Rather dry. The salad was delicious; shrimp, steak, pork and sauces, wonderful. There is so much food, and it just keeps coming. The bread pudding with ice cream to die for. The atmosphere is great, it feels really festive. Our server let the boys have virgin frozen pina coladas and strawberry daquiris as their drink on the DDP. Twice. Complete with fruit and umbrellas. They were thrilled. This has become a not-to-miss for us.

We ate at Ohanas on Sept 9 before MNSSHP and it was probably in our top 3 dining experiences out of 10. And that's saying alot since we enjoyed all of our meals (well, one was so-so). I guess we're just not that picky and rather low maintenance.

Our server was fine, but we prefer a little privacy when dining...just bring out our drinks and food and maybe one checkup(and keep an eye on the drinks), then leave us alone. Overbearing servers get on my nerves, but I guess some people like that. Kids are 10 and 13 and didn't want to take part in the shenanigans, but we all enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Our waitress was nice, but knew nothing. We would ask her about a drink and she knew nothing about what was in it. My husband asked for an irish coffee and she didn't know what it was. He told her it is coffee with Baileys just tell the bartender he'll know. Well he got a mystery coffee instead with what he thinks was ammeratto in it.

Irish Coffee is actually a drink made with coffee and Irish whiskey -- sometimes a little sugar and whipped cream. If your waitress told the bartender "Irish Coffee," that's probably what he got. I think there is a "Nutty Irishman" that has Frangelico & Amaretto in coffee, though.

I still have not eaten at Ohana. What's my problem???:confused3

We had dinner at O'Hana last night and LOVED it! We had just broccoli (with a few carrot strips mixed in) and the Noodles were AWESOME! I ate way too much salad, bread and wontons (with a few chicken wings thrown in) before the meat ever showed up.

I had also special ordered a birthday cake for my husband and that was truly scrumptious! I just wish I had more room left for the bread pudding as the few bites I had of that were awesome as well.

Our service was on par (not over the top - but not bad either) and the food was delish! O'Hana is still on our list of favs.

If you are a party of 6 or more with the automatic gratuity, and you feel strongly that the service did not justify the 18%, you can go back to the podium and ask to have the gratuity adjusted.

Of course, your server may end up delivering the adjusted check back to your table...

we'll be eating there for dinner for the first time Dec 11th and are so looking forward to it:woohoo:
