Just came back from WDW and had a great time as usual. But, unfortunately there were a few kinda "eh" experiences we had that could be improved upon. One of those times happend to be dinner at 'Ohana's. We ate dinner there last year at this time and we thought it was absolutely out of this world. So, we HAD to eat there again this time 'round!!..???..

What a MISTAKE! The menu that we fell in love with last year has changed so much (in our opinion), and not totally in a favorable way either. Where did those wonderful wonton crisps go?...How 'bout my Maui scalloped potatoes? Mixed veggies instead of just broccoli....The service was "eh" and they kinda knew it too, because they were very apologetic throughout...:worship:

Again gang, please know this is just our opinion of our overall experience...:hippie:

Other than that, there were WAY more pros than cons, we still LOVE Disney and will continue to visit our other home year, after year, after year....:cloud9:

Good night.

OH NO! I had heard the potatoes were back. Were they gone again? Noodles?

Sorry it was disappointing. I hate when you have an awesome experience then go back and it fizzles. You just sit there and :confused3

For me, 'Ohanas is currently off my menu choices. I loved the shrimp in the sauce, plus the potatoes. With those items gone, there isn't enough left that I like to make me go there. Noodles do nothing for me. Last time I went was in January, and the service was pretty sparse then, too. This is all too bad, since 'Ohanas used to be a never-miss for me on every trip. :(

I couldn't agree with you more! We ate there 2 weeks ago and it sucked majorly. Adam had dined there a few times before but I had not. I'd heard such good things from DIS and from Adam. We have officially crossed 'Ohana off our "must eat" list. We had "Cousin Donna" as our server and she couldn't have ignored us more than if we weren't in the restaurant. She was all over her large party table and the table where a former employee was sitting. The food was subpar and the we were never even brought any turkey or steak. After eating there, I can't see what all the rave reviews are about. :confused3

Oh no no no! *shaking head*

We couldn't get ressies the first time we went to WDW.
We had them last trip, and cancelled them because my sister joined us last minute and they couldn't fit her on the reservation.
We finally have a reservation for this trip...and now there are a ton of bad reviews coming in! NO! Should I just not bother? Try to make another ressie instead?

We went last week, well October 8th and TBH we had the best meal we've ever had there. We've eaten there on every trip (7 trips and we've eaten both dinner and breakfast there) and yes while they changed the menu a tiny bit, I didn't see it as a huge thing. The shrimp on the barbecue was so yummy, I kept asking for more and more. The turkey was grilled so nice, it was tender and juicy. Now the steak could have been more raw for dh's liking but I dont' like steak so I didn't care if it was well done or medium or rare etc. The veggies we got were snap peas and they were crisp and delicious. No there weren't mash potatoes but the noodles were really good, IMHO. The salad of course was great and so was the bread. We were so stuffed before the meat even arrived! We had wonderful attentive service and I tipped the waiter more than than 20% because it was so good. The bread pudding was to die for and we jsut simply had a wonderful wonderful meal.

If people dont' want to go because of potatoes, I guess then that is their choice, so it leaves more room for me to get ADRs! :rotfl:

I do feel bad if you got bad service though that makes everything sucky. I would ask for a new server if it was me. :wizard:

we are going back to Ohana's in mid Dec, I hope its just as wonderful as our Oct 8th dinner!

I would totally go, some people will like it and some won't, you have that with everything. I heard some good reviews for LeCellier and not so good ones, but we will try it at least one time this Dec to say that we did. I am not a steak person as I mentioned so I am not really into the LeCellier, I'd rather eat at Ohana's 2x! LOL :goodvibes

I would agree. I had two meals at Le Cellier in the same trip, and one was the best meal of the trip, and the other was the worst meal of the trip - total opposite ends of the enjoyment spectrum in both food and service. If I had experienced just one meal or the other, I might have written a really glowing review or a really scathing one.

It is disappointing when your favorite restaurant doesn't live up to your past experiences with them. All restaurants have good days and bad days, and some servers are better than others. The only thing that would make me not go back to a restaurant for a while would be if things did go very wrong, and management didn't handle it well. Since managers at Disney restaurants seem to change more often than average, I'm always willing to go back after a year or two and give a restaurant another chance.

Service can sometimes make or break a meal, and unfortunately, we have had outstanding service and we have had 'eh' service. I wish we could tip before the meal! We are excellent tippers for great service, and I have always wondered if the server knew that at the start , would I receive better service? I know it shouldn't matter, but face it, money talks. Even average food can be somewhat overlooked if the service is top-notch. We have never eaten at O'Hana. Maybe we'll give it a try at another time. ADR are all set for December.

The potatoes haven't come back at all; allearsnet.com just hasn't updated their menu properly and confused some folks.

We ate there on wednesday and found it to be one of our "better meals" for the 2 weeks we were there. That doens't say much because most of them suck. We have always loved Disney restaurants and never eat off property, but we found this trip that the food for the most part seemed like a step up from counter service. There was nothing special about the meals. We had the same cold gross looking chicken & ribs at the luau and at Whispering Canyon. 2 totally different restaurants. Ohana's like previous posters had said has taken off some off their great items, like the potatoes, the yummy wontons. They still had the great wings. Our waitress was nice, but knew nothing. We would ask her about a drink and she knew nothing about what was in it. My husband asked for an irish coffee and she didn't know what it was. He told her it is coffee with Baileys just tell the bartender he'll know. Well he got a mystery coffee instead with what he thinks was ammeratto in it.
Menu choices were also limited especially on the kids side. Most of the time it was pizza, gross fish, hamburgers, and noodles. I want my kids to eat healthy. Why not offer smaller portions off the adult menu.
The best restaurants we ate at were California Grill. It also had the best selection of kids items. Great service as well. Food was hot, fresh and we didn't feel rushed through our meal.
Chef Mickey's - still a favorite and also great services
Le Cellier - terrific food and serivce for us and the kids

The worst were: Whispering Canyon - service good, food lousy
Coral Reef - Horrid best describes table, service and food and price!
The Luau - food terrible, service okay, show, what happened! It had been nine years since we had been there. Why did they change a perfectly great show! It was so boring. The food use to be great. Very disappointing! We will stick with Hoop dee doo next time.

We also ate at Olivia's, Sci-fi, t- rex and Liberty tree. They were fine. I wouldn't classify them as outstanding, but no complaints.

I know the restaurants are busier now with all this dining plan stuff, but it seems they are mainstreaming all the restaurants and seriving alot of the same stuff at each. The things that use to make each restaurant special are gone. As for service I think it has alot to do with tips being added automatically to the bill. The wait staff knows they are getting a tip regardless of how great there service is. I don't think that is right. I tip according to service and have left a tip equal to the bill for outstanding service. If I get better service then I think the 18% tip is worth I will leave extra, but if I get crappy service they still get 18% and that is not fair. I don't care how big the party is, we are all entitled to great service and food. Our size was 4 adults and 3 kids.

On the good side of things, at least I didn't gain any wait this trip!

We've never eaten there and had no desire. But that being said, you should go and try it for yourself. I take these reviews very lightly and, often after we have tried a new place that people love on this board, we've hated (Whispering Canyon Cafe was awful last month and we won't go back and we did not like Brown Derby at all--thought it was overrated and priced); and we've gone to places people said they didn't like and we thoroughly enjoyed--Mama Melrose, Biergarten, etc.). Every place is going to have an "off" day and everyone has different tastes.

GO! Try it, you'll probably love it!

We just returned from a week stay at the world and we so looking forward to eating at Ohana. During our trip last year Ohana was by far our favorite. We ate there on October 13th and had 5:00 seating. Our server was not very good. He had a very annoyed attitude the whole time. The chicken wings and turkey are still very good along with the salad. I so missed the potatoes. Those noodles they served were horrible. They were all pasty and noone in our party ate them. My sister in law liked the pork dumplings but she was the only one. My husband really missed the sausage too. Ohana was our worst meal we had this past vacation and I was very sorry to say that because we really use to love the place. We will probably skip it next trip.

We LOVE the new menu, but everyone likes different things. We hated the potatoes, so the noodles were something that made us very happy. As far as service goes, it's all luck really...like at any WDW restaurant. Sometimes you get good service, other times you don't. I don't blame it on the restaurant so much, since it can happen anywhere.

Yes, they have made changes, but they do still have the peanut sauce. All the meats were good and the shrimp too. Jusy FYI...Anyone with ressies for Thanksgiving...change them. It was so disappointing. It was NOT the regular menu. We went back the next nite last year so we could have the normal yumminess. We have been back 3 time since and it has been very consistent and we had good service as well!

I wasnt impresssed with Ohana's last time I was there either. Service was bad and they never came around with the skewers to refill us.

Yep, we agree. We had dinner last year at Ohana's and we didn't care for it at all. We ate there before that two years earlier and it was very good. So now that is definitely one we avoid, however, we do LOVE Ohana's breakfast!
