<font color=navy>I've never been on a tour of the Hollywood area, but I live close enough, and have taken guests to that area - what are looking for specifically?
If you've never been to Southern California, you'll be surprised at how big the city is. Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Bernardino County all run into each other - you can drive for two hours in a straight line, and never leave the city.
Hollywood is part of this whole metropolis.
If you're going to drive there, then I recommend the following, which can all be seen in one day:
Hollywood Blvd/Sunset Blvd - you'll see the Pantages Theater, Egyptian Theater, Cinerama Dome, Hollywood High (where they filmed the end of Grease and where a lot of stars went to high school).
Fairfax Blvd - Farmers Market & the Grove - Famous market where you can buy fresh fruit and lots of food stands there. The new Grove was added to the back of Farmers Market, and has a theater and some restaurants, shops, etc. We were there last Sunday, and spent a couple of nice hours there. Also, the La Brea Tarpits are on Fairfax and Wilshire Blvd. If you drive a couple of blocks north on Wilshire, you'll hit Rodeo Drive. Turn right and see the famous shops there (featured in Pretty Woman). Rodeo Drive ends at Sunset Blvd, and you'll see the famous Beverly Hills Hotel, where a lot of stars, etc., have stayed. You can get a map, or two, or three, of stars' homes at Mann's Chinese Theater, and you can drive yourself up in the Hollywood Hills/Beverly Hills area and see the huge homes/ mansions there, and see some of the stars -- You'll be able to drive on Mullolland Drive, Melrose Place, etc. etc.
