Hollywood studios in the rain - how bad is it?

We had planned to go to Hollywood Studios today but with all the rain decided to hold off until tomorrow (Sunday). It's still forecasting rain for Sunday but we leave Monday and want to fit it in before we leave.

My question is, what are you experiences doing DHS in the rain? Specifically, are most of the queue areas indoors for the top rides? We also plan to bring some sandwiches in with us for lunch - are there any covered areas where we can sit and eat our packed lunches?

All of the queue areas for the major rides are indoors...ToT (unless it's 30 min, then it spills out into the outside area), RnRC (all covered), Star Tours (excessive queue is outside, but should not be an issue), TSMM (all covered - except a small outside line when they first open but I bet they open up all the indoor queue due to the rain)

I would not hesitate to go to HS on a rainy day!!

I was at HS during hurricane Ivan a few years ago. While the storm hit the gulf coast we got bands of heavy hurricane rain and wind. Everything was still running at HS, they did cancel the last part of the Indiana Jones show for the safety of the cast, but that was it.

Last year we were at HS on a day where it rained all afternoon, starting with a big downpour, while MIL did not like it the rest of us (9 in total ages from 7 to 70) had a blast, in poncho's and splashing in the puddles. The lines got really short. They cancelled Fantasmic due to lightening which was a little disapointing but we understood safety first.

It is all about attittude if you are going to let the rain spoil your fun it will, if you look at it as a great opportunity to experience the park with less wait times, cooler tems, silly photo's of you in ponchos and pic's of relections in puddles, it can be a blast. Have fun!

I would recomend eating your lunch in the seating at the Studio Catering Co, by the backlot tour. It's a covered seating area.

I agree ~ DHS is a good park to visit in the rain. Besides the rides mentioned by pp posters being indoors, the shows are too; Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Muppets, Playhouse Disney, the only one I'm not sure about is Beauty and the Beast ~ it is outdoors but I think it the majority of the seating is covered. There are a few other walk through attractions/rides as well to get you out of the rain: The Great Movie Ride, Walt: One Man's Dream.

Fill your bathtub up. Put on your socks and shoes and step in. Now step out and then go for a walk.

If you just love, love, love the feel of soaking wet shoes, socks and feet, you will probably not mind the after-rain feeling.

You should already know if you enjoy being out in a rainstorm or not. If you normally do not enjoy being pelted with rain, you will probably not love it on vacation, either.

If you aren't sure, go out in the rain and get soaked, then go to the grocery store and do some shopping. See how you feel.

There are many DISers who love to be out in the rain and don't mind the soaking wet feet. Most people IRL prefer to avoid this stuff.

We were there today. I think DHS is one of the best parks to do in the rain. They moved a lot of the character meet and greet indoors and we did everything that we wanted to do. I think they cancelled Indiana Jones as well as Light, Motor, Action but I think everything else was open. We had ponchos but our feet were soaked. We were there from 10 am-5 pm and the rain did not seem to let up all day. There are places to eat indoors but they were all pretty packed today.

Yes - towards the back of the park - there's an outdoor covered seating area where you can eat your sandwiches. It will get busy in there if it's raining!

Other than that - realize folks will show up earlier for shows - and more will flock to indoor stuff - so those lines will get longer. But you can do a fair amount on a rainy day there.

You can still enjoy the park while it is raining. However if it thundering and Lightning don't take any risks and stay inside.

The key is here, don't wear socks and shoes.. wear water proof shoes like crocks or some sort of rubber shoe, and throw on your poncho and you are not that bad off... and going from attraction to attraction is not like grocery shopping in the rain.. that I hate, but I will do Disney... I live here in FL and do have to grocery shop in these rains when some are having fun at Disney.. I would rather be in the parks having fun in the rain..

I agree you can enjoy the park while it is raining, there is plenty to do inside. You will have to go outside to go between attractions but DHS is the smallest park and easy to get around fairly quickly.

Bring your lunch, stick it in a locker to keep dry if you need too so you do not have to carry it all day and worry over the rain.

There is a large undercover area with tables and chairs in the back of the park at the exit of Catastrophe Canyon near the Monsters meet and greet area that would be perfect for you.

We were at HS today - primarily because of the rain. It's just a good park to do in the rain. However, you can and will get wet, so be prepared.

One thing that drove my DH nuts was seeing younger kids walking around without a poncho, soaking wet and miserable. For goodness sakes, parents, cough up the 8 bucks and buy the kid a poncho!

It isn't a great park to have a stroller with you in the rain though so if you have a child going with you that is big enough that you can go without a stroller I would recommend leaving it at the room. Almost all stroller parking is out in the open. Since DHS isn't a huge park anyway, a child may be able to handle this park sans stroller more easily than the other 3 parks.

Agree. We did HS in the rain last trip which was a cool Feb. day. We wore rain coats and brought small compact umbrellas and a plastic bag. We used the umbrellas while dashing between attractions then when we got to the indoor que areas we put them all into the plastic bag. We felt much better than we do when wearing wet plastic ponchos all day. On our rainy day we hit Toy Story, GMR, RnRC, ToT, American Idol, the Narnia thing, the Walt thing, Muppet Movie and had lunch at 50's cafe. On our last day we went back to watch Indy and the car show. You've got to maake the best of it. Good luck!

DHS is a great park for when it rains. Almost all the queues are indoors. I don't know about other people, but I don't wear shoes where water going through them is an issue. Either they're waterproof or they're high enough quality that that isn't a problem. Just wear decent shoes and a poncho and you're good to go.

We were at HS all day yesterday in the rain. The Animation Building had lots of characters out and we were told that between 5 & 6 they bring out random characters there! Althoughwe were quite soaked by the end of the night-we stayed until park closing-we did have fun and got to do many of the rides and shows.

Today looks like a lot of the same, but it's our last day so we will brave the rain once again. We have a dinner ressie at Garden Grill then we plan to hop to MK.

One thing - we had teva sandals on (my dd and I) and a lot of the floors are so slippery so BE CAREFUL! DS had crocs and was fine. DH had sneakers but didn't wear socks. Feet will be soaked. But it's an adventure and it's Disney so go and have fun!!!

It's not bad, because most everything is inside (including ques). Not sure about lunches.

Today is supposed to be very wet, but not as wet as yesterday (which was FREAKY wet). My tip: Avoid shoes and socks. Wet shoes and socks lead to blisters (and are uncomfortable). Stick with sandals (if they're broken in) or flip flops. You feet will be wet....but probably more comfortable.
