Hollywood Studios Dining Strategy

You can definitely see what might be available when you are ready to leave DHS. ESPN Zone and Big River Grille don't take reservations, so you can always take a chance there. We've eaten at Big River - it's ok. Have never been to ESPN. You could also try the Fountain or Garden Grove at Swan/Dolphin. You might have a little wait depending on the day and time you go. We've also been able to get last minute reservations at Il Mulino and bluezoo and have walked into Kimono's. If you want to try for a Swan/Dolphin restaurant, it's best to call the restaurant directly and not call Disney dining. We actually enjoy the QS at Boardwalk - good salads, pizza, turkey sandwich, etc. And it's so nice to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere!

Any comments on Min and Bill's Diner?

We had the soup in a breadbowl at Min and Bill's during the star wars fireworks. It was really good. We also LOVE the boardwalk for the terrific lobster roll. Other options we enjoy at DHS is the Hot Italian Sandwich at Catalina Eddie's, the ribs and chicken combo at Fairfax Faire, and one of our favorties is to split the Cobb salad at Brown Derby. Mama Melrose is terrific for a TS.

View attachment 113275 I know most probably don't agree but my family and I really liked Pizza Planet. We went during Star Wars weekend and it was pretty busy but we were able to snag a table for 7 of us. The dessert we had was awesome too

FYI. You can't get that at almost all of the QS in DHS during Star Wars Weekends.

One warning about Starring Rolls. They have very limited seating, and people tend to linger. Also, the sandwiches are pre-made, so I don't think you can change anything on them. I was thinking about eating there last trip, but DS is picky and wouldn't have liked most of the stuff on the sandwiches. The only kids option is the Smuckers uncrustable PB&J. DS doesn't like jelly:confused3

On our HS day we made an ADR at Beaches and Cream at the BC. Another option would be Hurricane Hanna's at SAB at the BC. You don't need to enter the pool area to eat there. HH has the best pulled pork sandwich.

QS at HS is just plain bad. We've opted for either the sandwiches at Backlot Express, or Pizza at Pizza Planet for the most part. We do Cape May's Cafe (seafood buffet) for TS on our HS days though. Just take the boat to the beach club from the front of HS.

Cape Mays, believe it or not, has pretty good availability most of the time.

I used to think so.....but I haven't had a bad meal on Sunset Boulevard, at those 4 stands, my dad has a turkey leg, I had a great chicken salad, and we can get ice cream!

I avoid the ABC commissary usually, but the backlot express is usually pretty easy if you catch it at the right time.....man, apparently I have low standards, but maybe they have been lowered to HS levels, cuz I know what I am getting into when I walk in.....

IMHO some of the CS in DHS is better than others, but it's all subpar. If we're in the parks, we often eat a relatively early lunch at whatever park we're visiting and then get in a couple of more attractions before our afternoon break. We usually don't do that at DHS; when possible we try to finish whatever we're doing in DHS and eat lunch elsewhere.

When we do eat lunch in DHS we usually do it at the Commissary. It's not great (maybe not even good), but it's air-conditioned and relatively peaceful. I do think they're trying to improve their food choices there; last time we were there they had a CM taking surveys from people exiting the Commissary and getting the guests' take on food quality, etc. It seems they've plussed up their menu a little since then.

I liked the grilled vegetable sandwich at Backlot Express with a $7.00 :scared: Yuengling.

Backlot Express is always our "go to" QS spot at Studios. I like their pressed sandwich and get that pretty regularly & they always have plenty of seating for the better part of the day. I also like the fact they have free refills on their drinks as well.
