Hollywood Studios a bust today 10/21

We were at disney about two weeks ago. We were at MK two days, grandkids never got to ride space mountain. The ride was constantly up and down. No pun intended. The ride was open, kids run over and it's down. That happened several times. At one point that day, Space , thunder, mine train and winnie were closed at the same time. And of course splash is closed for months. Later that night we went to use a FP at mine train and the line went almost to the merry go round. We didn't wait.

I would swear off DHS until late 2018 or even early 2020... there is no way anyone is getting their money's worth until after Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge are open. Lack of attractions (they even closed another signature attraction, the GMR, during all this construction!) means the wait times for what is left is even greater.

OP - sorry you had a bad day, sounds very frustrating. We are seriously thinking of buying AP's in the next few weeks, and reports like this make me wonder. We usually drive in for day trips and if things are really breaking down with this frequency it doesn't seem like that much fun. Seems like Disney is focusing on other things, like adding in lots of things/parties that you have to pay extra for and not focusing on ride upkeep. Hopefully I'm wrong and it was just a fluke.

It was a bad day and we do try to roll with it, but when it's one thing after the other it gets tough. I love it here, but when all I get done in a morning is Toy Story, Star Tours and a $46 Starbucks run, it stings. When you've forked out nearly $4000 Canadian in AP costs it feels like a rip off.

I think that's where we are. It's too frustrating. Rockin Roller Coaster if frequently down and once that happens, everything falls apart. I am there on Tuesday for the Ultimate Thrills tour and I hope things are running that day. I wonder how they deal with ride outages for that tour because they promise ten attractions.

In recent years it seems like we run into more "bad days" at just about any of the parks. This is likely because we go to WDW more frequently that we used to. Even knowing that, it is no fun being in a park that is have a bad day. We usually hop over to another park. A couple of weeks ago I was at MK and it was just about intolerable (attractions down; high crowds), so I went to DHS and rode Toy Story and RnRC twice with no waits thanks to instantly available FPs.

During our May trip there was a brief time when Pirates, Splash, and 7DMT were all down at the same time. They got 7DMT up and running again in 20 mins (we were at the front of the FP line when it went down). Splash and Pirates were up and down all day. Being an engineer I have some sympathy for Disney. It’s hard not to have machinery go down when it operates that much. Especially old machinery (which might explain why they were able to get 7DMT running again more quickly and consistently but not Pirates and Splash). I hope this Splash refurb goes under the hood and isn’t just a paint job. The CM at 7DMT said that Splash going down was a daily occurrence.

Please speak only for yourself not "everyone".
I could not care less about Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land.
I am perfectly content with HS right now.
Other than GMR nothing I care much about has closed in years.
I find plenty to do that I enjoy doing every time.
RNRC, TOT, TSMM, BATB, VOTLM, Frozen Sing along, Sci-fi....

wow OP...I hear you.... That park is already half of what it used to be....and then the 'big' ride is shut down.... for those of who don't have hoppers, etc what a HUGE problem that would have been.... you pay about a million dollars (ok it's less but it's not cheap) to get into a park for the day,and there isn't enough to do to fill a day? I'd be annoyed too! For many of us(me included) there isn't much to do in that park anyway at this point- I'd like to visit when they have something worth visiting for again, tho I think it'll be very different by then...I loved the 'old hollywood' feel to everything that apparently is being removed left and right anyway,so I'll just wait and see.

It’s very frustrating when rides go down. I feel particularly bad for the visitors who are doing a first time trip or a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

As frequent visitors, we’ve begun to branch out beyond the parks for some of our days. Disney offers lots of other things to do besides rides. While it may not be in the plans, it’s worth looking at these other options if a park like DHS isn’t running properly. Unfortunately, most of the “outside the park” options do cost extra.

We're skipping DHS our upcoming late November trip and plan for a half-day for our March trip...we're looking forward to new attractions coming in 2018 and later!

The value is in the eyes of the beholder, but are skewed as we are AP holders.

We just spent 6 days at Disney.
I spent 2 at the MK, 1 at AK, 3 at Epcot, and none at DHS.
We had 3 teens with us, they started and ended the trip at DHS.

I'd rather see the entertainment at Epcot, the nightly concerts at Food and Wine, the food, the atmosphere over watching Fantasmic for the 15th time. Not a coaster fan so DHS doesn't have the appeal to me right now over the other parks. The kids love Star Tours, the Coaster, Tower of Terror.

We will revisit in the fall of 2018 and I will spend a day at DHS at that point.

She is meetable only for these two weeks or so while the SW stage show is down. Even now, she’s not a scheduled meet and there is some luck involved in seeing her.

We live near by. I'll make sure to pop by and see if we can catch her. My daughter was BB8 for Halloween last year and she has a Star Wars themed playroom.

They’re also working on splash next year in January so I’m hoping they are really working hard to fix the machinery like you said.

This hasn’t been confirmed yet, to my knowledge. Some travel agents have reported it but cast schedules do not reflect it yet. Crossing fingers it’s not down.

Oh okay, I thought it had been confirmed. We’re going in March for DAH but I would be a little upset if I chose to go in January or February and splash went down again.

Yeah I’ve been following it because we’re there in January. So far it’s pretty iffy. I’m figuring it’ll be down but hoping for the best!

Well I hope for your sake that it stays open for you! But I also hope there’s no chance it’ll be closed for our visit.

I had an experience like this a few years ago at AK, pre-Pandora. I had an early Wild Africa Trek scheduled,so I planned to do everything else I wanted to do during morning EMH. I was going to skip Kilimanjaro Safaris because I was going to do the Trek. EE was down, Dinosaur was down, they weren’t turning people away from PW, but there was a long line and the ride wasn’t running. The only thing open was Triceratops Spin. I ended up riding that a couple of times out of desperation, then headed back to EE, which was still down. The cast member at EE was directing everyone to KS (it had also been down), which was the one thing I wasn’t planning to visit. This was a short trip and I had other plans for the afternoon and evening, so this was quite disappointing.

Was just looking at Epcot wait times and it shows that FEA, Test Track and Seas with Nemo and Friends are all three down. WTH? We'll be at Disney in 10 days and hoping we don't run into this type of nonsense. Spending WAY too much money for a bunch of rides to be down (in addition to those like Splash Mountain that are closed for refurb).

Test Track was down Friday for a while, but came back up. Frozen went down a little later right before my FastPass time and they weren’t sure if they were even going to reopen the day. So, went to TT to use the AnyTime FP and the FastPass line had a 20 minute wait time. Single Rider was 35 minutes. Ende de up doing Mission Space Green and probably waited just as long as for some reason Orange boarded twice before they took a single Green.

I was going to hit MGM today, but couldn’t find a room for last night at a reasonable price, so I just headed home. Not sure what’s going on, but even the Roach motels were charging $100-$200/night and few had any availability at all.
