I was wondering what your opinions of Hollywood and Vine are for lunch or dinner? We are going to be at DHS on Christmas Day and I am looking for a fun lunch or dinner at the park. Any thoughts?

I ate there in August and was pleasantly surprised. They had a good variety of meats and vegetables. Never got to eat dessert though. Was too stuffed.

DW & I went there for a F! pkg during FD '08 (I think...mighta been '07). It was vile. It was quite possibly the worst buffet style resturant we've ever dined at anywhere...not just in WDW. Sometimes with the buffets, if we can't find enough we like to eat for entrees, we just fill up on desserts. That wasn't the case @ H&V...even the desserts weren't worth eating. The entrees and sides were all unappitizing. We can be picky eaters at times, but this was not a case of us being picky...it was just bad food. It was the only time we've ever left a buffet hungry. IIRC, afterwards we grabbed a snack to have before F! started. DW & I won't be in any rush to go back there unless we start hearing many positive experiences from folks here.

Trying to decide myself whether or not to go there...looks right now like it's a toss up...1 good/ 1 bad!! lol

We ate there for lunch a few weeks ago on our trip.

First off, both the Breakfast and Lunch buffets are character meals. The characters are typically two of the little Einstiens as well as JoJo and Goliath. All from Playhouse Disney. This worked great for us, as we had a 2 1/2 year old in tow and she knew these characters well. So, just a heads up there. Note that Dinner does not include any characters at all.

Foodwise... it was nothing spectacular, but not horrible either. It's tough to describe a place that was simply "OK", but that's how it was. I was a bit skeptical about it, from reading harsh reviews before I went (I almost cancelled it), so my expectations were rather low, but it turned out ok. We had better during the week and we had worse.

And now one in between! We make things difficult over here don't we!

My Vote is Go For It! We were there last month and I hadn't read one good review of Hollywood and Vine on these boards so I was a bit hesitant about dinner there. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised! It's nothing extravagant, and doesn't really have any flair, but the food is typical, All American, and familiar. That made for a good combination in our books!

I'm a big fan of Pull-n-Eat Shrimp so I was in heaven! There were Salads, Breads, Meats, and plenty of Desserts!

Here are a few shots of our plates...

It was also here that I discovered the Magical Star cocktail! LOVE IT!!!

As for Dessert, I neglected to take a picture of the offerings  but I was in heaven. There was Ice Cream and Sundae Toppings, Mini Cheesecakes, Brownies, and what became my personal favorite...Key Lime Tarts!

I would definitely eat here again. This place had a very chill atmosphere, everyone was nice, and we enjoyed a nice break from the heat. :thumbsup2

I've eaten there around 4 times, and did not like it any of the times (I put up with it, because it was easier to feed DS at buffets when he was younger). I won't go back.

Generally speaking, the buffet character meals are mediocre at best. Don't expect anything better than your local $9.95 buffet. At one visit, the CM overheard my adult son complaining about the fried chicken-she said "wait a minute" and came back with fried chicken from next door-which was good!
Try 50's prime time. or Mama Melrose instead.

Never been, but the bff says it's horrible and I trust her opinion; seconding that with my apologies but the food in those pictures looks decidedly unappealing...try to get Prime Time instead - the food there is actually good!

It's been about two years since we went there...but we did not enjoy it at all. In fact, after that DH mandated "no more buffets!" except for breakfast. It was definitely the worst buffet food we've had at WDW.

I would say skip this one. The buffet and table were dirty, food so-so and a rude waiter who tacked on the tip for >8 people, accepted an additional cash tip and then charged ANOTHER tip to the room. This was a buffet and we barely saw him - BAD!!!

If you're looking for a fun meal, try Sci-Fi or 50s Prime Time, I think you'll be happier!

There are three Disney restaurants that we will not go to -- WCC, Boatwright's and Hollywood & Vine and Hollywood & Vine is at the top of that list. You could not pay us to eat there again. Rude hostess, non-existent service, lousy food--lukewarm, no flavor--and that is when there was food and you didn't wait 15 minutes for them to fill the containers and the place was filthy. We usually give each place two chances in most instances. We, unfortunately, did so with H&V and had the same experience both times...we should have learned after the first time.

I well keep my ressie and give H&V a try. I have always said I'll try anything once. :goofy:

I'd find somewhere else. We were at H&V in April and I will never go back. It was the absolute worst meal of the trip and probably of my whole year so far.

The food was not good and the few edible things there were not being refilled at a decent rate. The ice cream machine was broken so all the little desserts were gone - also not being replenished.

The restaurant itself was disgustingly dirty - I won't even start on the bathroom as I've addressed that in prior threads - all I can say is Ick!

For a special holiday trip, I would highly encourage you to find another restaurant - even a day of snacks from Starring Rolls would be better than H&V.

I went to H&V back in June for dinner, and the food was decent--just like every other buffet in Disney. The service was slow--I think we only saw our server twice the whole night. No fault of the restaurant's, but once when we came back from the buffet, someone's kid was sitting at our table getting ready to look in my wife's purse. Too young to be stealing anything--he was just curious. His parents were watching the whole time and said nothing to him, and this is why my wife advocates Shaken Parent Syndrome.

Yeah, I'm cranky today, so what!:headache:

SPS-I love it!
