Hollywood and Vine or Sci-fi Diner?

We love the Sci Fi. The turkey sandwich was great and the picnic burger was a huge hit with my DS and DDIL. I get that you look at the menu and see mostly sammies but they are much better than CS food. They used to have ribs and my DH loved them but last time we were there they weren't on the menu. We have not been to H&V in a few years that is because the 3 times we did eat here for dinner it was not good. The food was dried out and not hot. There was a pork dish that was so dry I could barely swallow it and I like my food well done. We can't bring ourselves to spend that kind of $$ on a buffet again after the last 3 times we tried and were very dissapointed.

Wow.... I am back to thinking about this again. I did the 50's Cafe on our last trip for lunch. It was fun joking around with the waitress and the food was okay. I had a problem with the wait time. We had a reservation for 1:15 and weren't seated until almost 2pm. It was PACKED! Plus, there are other negative energy (personal family issue) associated with the restaurant, so I want to avoid it.

I agree with you about 50's. We usually eat at the bar, we are all adults and like the food but not the antics. Have you thought about Mama Melroses? I haven't been there in a few years but liked it the last time we were there. maybe you can take the boat to the Boardwalk area and eat at one of those restaurants. Just throwing it out there!

Brown Derby is kid friendly in that there's a kids menu and we had great service. Even when really busy like dinner on a Fantasmic night, our waiters were attentive to DS's needs - timing food right and keeping his strawberries coming! But it's obviously not as much fun as SciFi. I'll 2nd that SciFi burgers are MUCH better than any CS. And be prepared for BIG burgers, easily shared.

@phillymummer - have you tried Mama Melrose's? It's a nice restaurant with what we feel is some pretty good food. It's one of our "usuals" when at Hollywood Studios.

Okay.... I went back to the sci-fi. Thank goodness you can make and cancel reservations online! :crazy2:

Thanks everyone for your opinions. After thinking about it.....again... I would rather have a really good sandwich that cafeteria quality food. And at least there will be a fun atmosphere!

Good Choice! SciFi is a must do for us now. And I've never waited more than a few minutes to be seated. Been there 4 times. The trick for us is timing it... so we can make one of the Lights, Motors, Action shows. I really like skipping breakfast (coffee is usually enough for me), then pigging out at 11am SciFi lunch. Again... the burgers are HUGE. We really liked the Reuben sandwich too for something lighter. The onion rings and fries are fantastic. Milkshakes too and the flavored sodas. I've been on a low carb, low calorie diet so eating there would kill me now.... But hey, on vacation.... LIVE IT UP!

Next trip, I think I'll do my usual pig out at SciFi Diner... then have a light dinner at Brown Derby (and just pay for it, no dining plan) because I MUST have their soup... and the cobb salad is big enough to share too.

Here's an old review I wrote in 2010 of SciFi with pictures. In 2011, we had the burgers... sorry no pics from that trip.
