Holiday travel/airlines?

We are in the process of planning our first DVC trip for the family. It looks like we will either be going either a week before Christmas 2011 or a the week following the New Year 2012. My question is when do the airlines usually hike the price for holiday travel and how long do the higher prices last? There will be five of us traveling from Montana.

I would buy the tickets the minute they go on sale (most airlines offer tickets about 11 months prior to travel date).

There really aren't deals between Thanksgiving and the end of the year - that is peak travel time and airlines like to make their $$.

This topic is more suited to our Transportation Board (not DVC specific) so I will relocate it over there. Good luck! :)

the week after NYE should be less for airfare, and the DVC points are much less, as well. Crowds are lower. So, if you can go then, that would be your best bet. You can get decent airfare the week prior to Christmas, but your airfare back home will be very expensive, assuming you are headed back anytime from Dec 22-25. Now, if you area going a full week prior to Christmas, and are returning by the Sunday a full week prior to Christmas, airfare will be decent.
If you are going the week after NYE, there are usually some deals, but not until the Fall 2011, and that is iffy. So, if you see a good fare, book it.
