Holiday showdown

it was very odd, no nice meals, just hotdogs. I have to agree with Tinker that poor young girl, she seemed so shy, "Young Tom Jones" was obviously out for what he could get, when he patted the bed and said you are in here tonight I could have been sick.

I don't think they showed WDW in the best way, why did they have hot dogs every day? People will think its all rubbish food there and not know what great places there are there to eat. I thought the family were silly to stop the other ones from leaving their room, if they had been allowed out and had maybe gone swimming or something they might have enjoyed it more. :confused3

Both families were a bit wierd...

As you say, no table service or nice restaurants - just icky hot dogs and junk. They didn't seem to use fastpass either - they seemed to queue for hours. Plus going at the busiest time of year and going to the parks at the busiest time of the day.

Despite the army guy's odd character, he was trying his best to ensure that the other family got the most out of their trip to Slovinia (even if they didn't seem to eat many meals  ). Did he "punish" the girl and Mum for not hanging around to do/watch the paragliding? No. The Jones, however, seemed to just want to make the other family's life miserable in Orlando...

I like the idea of "holiday showdown", but the people on it are usually idiots... :confused3

I would have shown them the "true" way....:rotfl:.It would have even put me of disney if I had done it the same way as the Jones.

 I thought that was really mean at the end then...that poor young girl...dumped on national TV...She was so shy as well...The producers should be ashamed of themselves...:sad2:

 What was the point of that! typical teenage romances are hard enough without that!

:rotfl2: If the Jones came to WDWwith us they would know what military pecision is all about. Up early for rope drop, the continual planning, adrs etc:rotfl2: bet they always get the best from disney:rotfl:

That was the whole point, they weren't supposed to enjoy it :sad2: . I think that the Jones decided that they didn't enjoy (and were made to "suffer" - not intentionally) in Slovenia, therefore they were going to make the Kerrs suffer in Orlando... Silly and spiteful, but the programme producers probably liked that and further cut and edited the programme to emphasise that...

It's disappointing they painted such a poor picture of WDW there was so much they could have shown like the Osbourne Xmas lights which are amazing and why no nice dinners or character meals. While I wasn't keen on the army family I would have to agree with the wife on needing an early night after a long day in the parks I'm always exhausted :)

I was thinking exactly the same thing whilst watching it...:) ...When we are in disney ...IAM a seargent major...:rotfl: ..with a full itinerary and ADRs and we are up at 7am most days but in bed by 10..(unless fireworks)...But the family THANKED me for it...we had no ques..walked onto rides..spent the busy afternoons in the pool or resting...and a nice table service meal in the evening...Bliss!!:wizard:
The Jones are mere novices...one day they'll discover the dis and the penny will drop...:rotfl2:

Wow, what a disaster, I thought the 'Slovakian' holiday was an absolute nightmare, the only thing I would've enjoyed would probably have been trying the snowboarding. What a selfish man to make his family visit a load of firemen (whoop-de-doo), everyone looked so bored

As for the 'Disney' family, what was with the getting up at 11am all about ? As much as I enjoyed watching Tom hating every minute of Disney, I thought that the 'Disney' family wasted a lot of time and turned up at the Parks at the busiest time of the day

One things for sure, it reinforced my view of not going on holiday with other people -I know what I like, and wouldn't want anyone else to ruin it for me :thumbsup2

Did anyone else wonder if the 'Disney' family were members of the DIS or perhaps lurkers ?

Mandy :)

p.s. I'm off to google where the nearest fire station is to Disney :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

These sort of programmes are not there to show the good side of either the holidays or the people.
They deliberatly find the most incompatable families so they can have showdows and feed todays society with so-called "entertainment"

You had two families, both very similar with head of the families who ruled, one a wannabe Officer (never made it in either the Army or the Fire brigade, AAC! poor mans RAF) who could only "rule" his household. The telling comment was "I wanted to go to the fire station, tough on the children" and followed up by "Should we have this discussion in front of the children"

and

A Chavvy family with more disposable income than sense, (Decking, hot tub and conservatory) with a head who expected the little wife to run around after him.
The pair of them swearing in front of the children just about summed them up.

Neither was going to be happy, which is exactly what the producers wanted.
Are you telling me the only food available in WDW is Hot dogs? of course not, A whole day from 6am without any food whatsoever? Ridiculous.

As for the love affair, this was never going to work, one because of the distance (too far without a car) and two, the parents would have put a lot of pressure on the two of them, not worth the hassle to a boy with raging hormones.

No way! they were complete amateurs. No DIS'er would still be in bed at 11am we've all done half a day by then :rotfl:

I was approached by a researcher for this show and because we were a Disney obsessed family we were asked if we wanted to go on the show to take a non-Disney family to WDW. I am now wondering if this is the show they were talking about. I wouldn't have minded the skiing and the para gliding. When I declined the offer because the programme is deliberately confrontational the researcher "assured" me that this would not be the case! It must be a nightmare to take non-Disney people to WDW when they clearly won't enjoy it, but that horrible chavvy Jones family were not representative of your typical Disney family and I hope the viewing public don't think that Disney oriented people are like that! Poor Walt would be turning in his grave!

What a shame it painted such a grim picture of the Disney-loving family :(

Absolutely!

I felt they just set out to deliberately make life as uncomfortable as possible for the others - what was all that about forcing them to stay in their bedroom with the heat cranked up? And making them eat and drink the same as them? Puerile and demeaning.

And it was a shame we didn't see more of the Disney destination.

... but I did find the shots of Tom trying to ski and do a snow-plough really funny! :rotfl:

no need i tell you theres the old one near to the traffic lights at the turnning for pop century before the petrol station, then there the new moddern one before the turn of for SSR after downtown disney, with the loverly fire hose pump in midair water running as if from noware(like at tusards at blackpool)God i sound like the fireman in the program:rotfl2:
Paulh

i watched the programme and i thought the disney family made it very hard for the other family !!! their rules were very petty and designed to be confrontational

on a plus point i dreamt of florida last night

i dreamt of florida last night

Always a great thing Nat:woohoo:

I wasn't impressed with the programme. There is no way I'm getting up at 6 in the morning and being on the go for 14 hours unless it is in WDW.

The families actually lasted longer together than I would have. There is no way I would have tolerated the father of the first family for longer than a few minutes. Plus the second family were very petty in not allowing them to do what they wanted. I know it was payback for their miserable week but come on.

Don't forget if everyone got to Disney at rope drop we'd all have to queue up so we should be thankful for families like that who don't arrive till later!

Do you know that is exactly what I said to DH, we always stay in a villa with a pool and I could count on one hand the times that we have been home of an evening to go in it! They must have gone to the MK for about 3 hours then gone home to eat, with us it would be MK at opening, stay till close, check schedule see if Illuminations is on at Epcot, park hop over there, then go shopping at DTD or a late Mall! woo they think they had a hard time!?!?! :rotfl:

I never watch this programme usually cos of the whole set up thing with two families who will obvioulsy never agree on anything I must admit it was WDW that drew me to it last night!! It's like a drug!!!!! :hippie:
