I think I might have found one on the family boards! Maybe you should have posted this in all the forums.
I think I might have found one on the family boards! Maybe you should have posted this in all the forums.
This may be helpful to some of the newer posters:
Each year as the holiday's approach the number of posts increase with people who have heart-breaking stories of not having money for food, gifts, clothes, etc.
First I want to thank everyone who posted and is keeping this thread alive. I know that the people who have been on the boards for a while would understand.
You will find in the next few months posters who will start to make "remarks" about another poster. It may come off to you as being - well MEAN. BUT, and this is really important, that poster who said something, is trying to help you without coming right out and saying what is happening. You really can't just come out and blast a poster. You would get points and or banned. And the people who work these scams know this.
I am quite sure most of the people commenting on this thread in agreement know the posters to watch out for.
The closer it gets to the holidays, the sob stories will begin and people will hint that their holiday is going to be miserable without a specific item (hypothetically let's just say a Honey Baked Ham or the latest American Girl doll). People that have been around these boards will make comments about the begging and others will come in and "defend" this poor soul who posted their sob story and will start sending the poster money, gift cards, gifts, etc...
Happens every year like clockwork.
Well I'm not exactly new to the DISboards and usually lurk once in a while on the budget board but rarely post here. You guys are a wealth of info and adviceHowever, this thread gave me pause. I am totally the type of person to get sucked up in a sob story and offer help. It never would have occured to me that a long term DISer would scam or fall into the category of shall we say, "needing perpetutal help"
So, thank you to opening my eyes and I am sure many others to that possiblility.
Having read the various threads now if I had seen the "mean" remarks out of context of what I now realize, I would certainly just have thought, WOW how rude, unkind etc. while sympathizing with someone's plight![]()
Well thanks to some ironic pots and kettles and searching user thread starters and what not ... you can call me officially stunnedTalk about perpetual bad luck. In the immortal words of Ursula, "Poor unfortunate soul."
I must say the Yay me thread was hilarious!
Man, I am never listening to you guys again... I had a few minutes to kill so I went ahead and started skimming the "Yay Me" thread

I'm do for a little bump action. The doctor today said I needed to increase my exercise. So I am bumping once with my left hip and once with my right.
When you are done with your hips, you can move to the arms. Lifting the thread is also good exercise.
Things seem interestingly quiet this week.
I'll bet money they are waiting for people to get busy and forget to bump this up.
Things seem interestingly quiet this week.
I think there are enough people on this thread that at least one person a day can keep it bumped. I almost want to take bets to see how many more days they are going to hold out before they make that frantic post. 1 week to Thanksgiving.
I'm keeping Thanksgiving economical this year since the family is split geographically and there are only 2 of us. I'm doing a stuffed roaster chicken. We always debone the turkey before serving it anyway, so it will be hard to tell the difference. I cook this meal often throughout the year. Yummm. Less mess, less leftovers that usually end up lost in the bottom of the freezer.
It's quiet. Too quiet. *crickets*
