Just curious, why is there the extra charges during Holiday seasons. It appears it is not just on the holidays. Also I see like the week of thanksgiving there are extra items added to some of the buffets--is that just on Thankgiving itself. If only that day then why the upcharge on the other days. Are the prices inflated or extra at ala cart restaurants? I am also confused why sometimes lunch is inflated more than dinner. Like it makes them the same price but that is a larger increase for lunch. TIA

Simply put, because they can. It is lame, I know, but truly, that is the reason.

bytheblood is right. Disney jacks up the prices during what they call holiday periods simpley because they can. They know people will line up to eat excessively priced food simply because they're at WDW. They don't upgrade or enhance the food at all for the extra charge, AND their definition of holiday period is a bit confusing. For example, it's a holiday from Memorial Day through 4th of July. So, if you go eat on June 20th, guess what - at a buffet you'll pay the holiday surcharge. Around Thanksgiving it's for the entire week.

Thankfully the ala carte places do not jack the prices up except on REAL holidays they might substitute expensive turkey dinners for some of the regular menu items. The surcharge is just on the buffet meals - and face it, too many people out there will pay any price just so their little prince & princess can eat with the characters
