I know I can't be the only one struggling with the temptations of the season so I thought I would start a post of holiday pitfalls/recommendations to help us all make it through this season of temptation!

This last week my office has been inundated with food of all kind and although I have pretty much resisted, it gets harder and harder every day. Today I actually had one bite of chocolate cake to try and scratch the itch to cheat and it did keep me away from the stuff, but the desire is still there. I know a lot of folks say it is "only once a year", but that is how my weight issues get out of control every year because once I start it is hard to stop.

So how are you surviving the holidays? What are you doing to keep on track? Post here with your thoughts, ideas, struggles or whatever. We are here to help one another so lets support each other here!

Great idea! We've got the cookie baking thing going here. I know the best way it to not make them, but it's happing around me. -- I just put them in plastic freezer bags inside coffee cans or other tins and put them in the freezer.

We went to "girls night out Christmas dinner" the other night. I managed to cut the meal in half, drink only water and brought the container home for my Piranha (2 DSs). It helps that they are here to devour things sometimes.

I am not always doing this well. Inspiration is always useful to me.

What other ideas?

Oh temptation of the season!! It IS everywhere isn't it? Three parties this week, 3 next week, and then we spread our family Christmas get togethers over 5 days. Oy! I'm trying to be good at the parties prior to Christmas. I don't want to gain weight before Christmas even gets here! My plan is to exercise with more intensity (when I get the chance!). The more calories we burn exercising, the more we can eat without gaining weight! Our family has now gotten into the tradition of going for an after-Christmas-dinner walk with the dogs. It feels good walking after eating all those treats. My other plan of attack is to watch my portions. I will allow myself a piece of chocolate ice cream cake for dessert, but it will be small. I also won't have one of everything at the buffet like I have in previous years!! Maybe that's how I got into this mess! :p

I'm hoping to lose 2 more pounds by next Friday. Then for the week of Christmas, my goal is to maintain. Losing would be nice, but I don't want to deprive myself so much that I get angry. Know what I mean? Good luck everyone!!! :sunny: :goodvibes

My plan:

1. Enjoy the Christmas stuff but have it in modest portions and in place of my usual treats, like WW desserts and 100-cal Sun chips.

2. Scope out the best looking food at buffets and ignore stuff I can get every day.

3. Eat slowly and fully enjoy each treat - no more guilty shoveling.

4. I'm doing all my baking at once. I'll have a big pot of vegetable soup going all day so I'll stay full and just do my best to keep sampling to a minimum; it's only one day.

Portioning is a key during the holidays. Cookies can be a HUGE weakness. I bake them, but go off, give them away, etc, and by the time I get home, most are all gone! I am kicking up the time on the walking. I am planning on meals at the table with the family during this week and next, because it really helps! We don't go to many parties--my work schedule is hectic--but somehow the goodies get here! I will have a treat, and as Kay1 says, enjoy it. DH really helps--or should I say reminds me--of what my limits should be. :rotfl: It helps that I share the cookie I indulge in with the dog. I have less that way. Good thing she isn't discriminatory against people food :)

I am planning on getting thru without any gains. I can not expect losses, yet maintaining at this time of year is a positive to me.

Have a great Holiday.

:santa:

Keep your hands (and taste buds ) busy by holding and sipping a beverage....punch or a hot cider, or even cocoa are all special treats but less calories, and filling. It also makes it easier to turn down things hostesses are pushing on you that you don't want.....just make a joke that you are too clutsy to eat and drink at the same time! It also helps me at parties to not sit down, really concentrate on socialising, find someone who looks lonley and strike up a conversation, while stadning with your back to the food!
