Since we've had our first snow and it's 6 weeks until Christmas, I started thinking about Holiday shows that I love to watch every year. Even though I have DVDs that I can watch whenever I want, there is something special about waiting for a favorite to appear on TV. Does anyone else feel this way? I thought it might be fun to make a list of favorites.

One of mine is "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby.

Ebenezer Scrooge here. I don't even want to THINK about Christmas until at least a week after Thanksgiving. Of course, the fact it's supposed to be 77 degrees here today may be part of the reason.
But to answer your question, yes, White Christmas is a good one. My wife always considers "Meet me in St. Louis" one, but it really isn't a Christmas movie.
It's always interesting here to see the generation gap on Christmas movies here on the boards.
Younger folks always seem to list "A Christmas Story". I guess it's a cult film now, because it was a HUGE box office bomb when it came out. Sadly, I don't get it even now. I had a co-worker ask me if I knew where I could get a "Leg Lamp", and I just stared at him.

Well, I normally don't wait for them to come on TV as I hate the commercial interruptions and all the advertising they do at the bottom of the screen and in the corners while the movie is playing. So distracting.

But, this year may be different as we now have HBO, Showtime, etc. so if they show any holiday movies I'll probably watch/record those.

I do have several Christmas DVD's that I watch, only in December and only AFTER the tree and other decorations have gone up in the house. We love "Christmas Vacation", "A Christmas Story", "The Homecoming", "Santa Clause I, II and III", "The Christmas Box", "Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas", "Home Alone", and probably a few others I can't think of right now. :)

The above poster mentioned "A Christmas Story" as one that younger folks like. I'm older (53) and I like it. :) We saw it as a live play here a few years ago, and had never seen the movie. Rented the movie after seeing the play, and it is now one of our favorites. I would love to have a leg lamp!!! :)

tvguy you are reading too much into the christmas story. Its just pure fun with humor! To each is own I guess.

Christmas movies as with Christmas music, only during December.

It's a Wonderful Life
White Christmas
Christmas Story (I have the lamp)
Christmas Vacation

And any sappy Christmas movie on Lifetime

I love christmas, and seeing as the our dog had surgery I cant leave him alone so I am already watching christmas movies.

How the Grinch stole xmas ( Jim Carrey )
Christmas storie
Frosty
Island of misfit toys
Christmas with the cranks

I love so many but I dont have to many at home to watch. I say watch what ever you want went your in the mood. I respect people who have a hard time before thanksgiving.

A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation are two of my favorites along with an old TV movie called The Gathering with Ed Asner and Maureen Stapleton. I finally found the DVD ~ yay!!!! I pretty much watch them all :thumbsup2

I love Christmas movies and have a whole shelf of Christmas dvd's. I love It's a Wonderful Life and the original Miracle on 34th Street (hate the newer one.) Two of my very favorites are newer ones, though--Muppet Christmas Carol and Love Actually.

DH LOVES A Christmas Story and watches it on Xmas day (ALLLLLL day!)

I lean more to White Xmas and Elf.....M boys love Elf, so it is usually a 'sleepover night' movie (we camp out in the living room)

A Christmas Story
Rudolph (I watch this at least 10 times)
Little Drummer Boy
Grinch - the original
This Christmas
Home Alone 1 and 2, I like 2 better for some reason
Frosty the Snowman
The Nightmare Before Christmas

and I always read and watch the Harry Potter movies every Christmas, not holiday oriented but its a weird tradition of mine! :)

I love your movies!!!

I find that older folks love "A Christmas Story". It is written about their Christmas and many of us and them remember what happened in the movie happening in real life. So many of the generation older than me wanted that Red Rider gun and were told they would shoot their eye out.

I love many of the Christmas movies both old and new. Hallmark has many on now that are fun to watch.

I love all the Rankin and Bass shows. I look forward to the 25 days of Christmas on ABC Family each year.

I only watch on DVD, not TV and haven't started watching yet.
I will start with a Thanksgiving movie: Home for the Holidays....love it!

Always watch:
Christmas Story (and not young either)
Jingle All the Way
Miracle on 34th Street (original)
many versions of A Christmas Carol....including Muppet's Christmas Carol
Christmas Vacation
and time dependent there are a lot more

I have spent a good part of the weekend watching holiday movies. Guess I am the only one so far.

The Holiday
Silver Bells
Elf
Fallen Angel
The Night They Saved Christmas
Serendipity

the list goes on and on....

"A Christmas Story" is a favorite of young and old. The movie was based on a book written by Jean Shepherd called, "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash." That book was a collection of short stories that came out in the mid-60s. I read the book when I was a young teen in the mid-70s. When the movie came out in the 80s, and I saw the credits at the beginning saying it was based on the Jean Shepherd book, I was so excited! My mom and I gave each other a thumbs-up in the theater.

My mom remembers listening to Jean Shepherd on the radio when she was a young girl before they had a TV. So, his stories have been a favorite for generations.

Now, on to my favorite holiday movies to watch:

A Christmas Story
It's a Wonderful Life
Elf

DH and I always watch 'Love Actually". He'd never seen a 'Christmas Story' until last year, I made him sit down and watch it with me. ;) 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' always makes the must see list, and I love 'The Little Shop Around the Corner'. DD's never seen 'Home Alone', I think this year we'll have to see if it's available through Netflix. :thumbsup2

First of all I admit I didn't read through all of the posts so someone may have already said this.

MY favorite is "Holiday Inn" which is the original movie that the song White Chistmas came from.
DH Loves Christmas Story and I admit so do I :)

I absolutely HATE A Christmas Story. One of the stupidest things I've ever seen and just can't understand why people love it so much.

Aside from that, I think I love all other Christmas movies!! I especially love the animated ones that remind me of my childhood.

:cloud9: My favorite types of movies!!

I have a list of must-haves that I watch every year:

-Christmas Story
-Christmas Vacation
-It's a Wonderful Life
-Miracle on 34th St (the original and the newer one)
-Elf
-Rudolph
-Frosty
-Emmett Otter!!!!! (my favorite :) )
-Scrooged
-Mr. Magoo's Xmas Carol
-The Night Before Xmas
-Charlie Brown Xmas
-Grinch Stole Xmas (original and the newer one)
