Holiday is cancelled :-( **UPDATE 16/07/12**

There are a lot of positive posts about shorter trips so I'm hoping you manage to get something sorted out pixiedust:

Fingers crossed for you pixiedust:

We have booked for Xmas!! I was looking at changing to October half-term but we were not able to change our DVC reservation and it all got very complicated :scratchin. So yesterday I started looking at Xmas, we are going the 22nd December until 5th January, we have been for Xmas before but never for new year so that will be something new for us. We were not able to use our DVC points and so are just paying to stay onsite at Pop Century (I'm too scared to work out how much money we have lost this year on flights/accomodation that we have not been able to use :faint:) We have only paid a deposit so if we still don't have our passports back we won't lose the full cost of the trip this time. I've just got to figure out how on earth we are going to pay for it now! :scratchin

Congrats on booking something else! Christmas is wonderful, you will have an amazing time!

Brilliant news! We went for 3 weeks last xmas and new year and it was one of the best holidays we've ever had! We planned on EPCOT for NYE but ended up doing a deserted AK until closing and then getting take out and eating it on the balcony at AKV and watching / listening to the fireworks in the distance.

Glad you have sorted something.
Done 5 Xmas trips, after every one I say never again, its so crowded, crazy lines but its also the most magical time to be there. After doing Xmas 5 times I have no desire to go again but no doubt I will be saying exactly the same after the 6th time.

So happy to read about your silver lining - great news that you have managed to book a trip.

I'm hoping to go over Christmas and New Year for my 50th - which I am starting to think isn't that far away! My birthday is NYE and I really want to have a birthday badge and have my Crystal Palace birthday breakfast like both of the children have had.

Have you got something else planned for the summer now? It might be an idea to have something nice to do on the day that you would have been flying so that you don't spend the day thinking of what might have/should have been.

Any news on the passport front yet?

That's brilliant news glad you've got something booked now I'd love to go over christmas and new year xx

Xmas is a great time to go but just make sure you are in the right frame of mind. It is crazy busy so understand you will not be able to do everything. Also if you're planning to be in a particular park for NYE especially EPCOT then you have to get there just after opening and stay there.

Having done NYE in EPCOT and wanting to get a good spot for the Illuminations we had our dinner (with a booked ADR) about 6:30pm and then staked our spot on the bridge between UK and France and didn't move. We took it in turns to wander about as there was plenty of entertainment going on and the waiting people turned it into a carnival atmosphere which was very cool. The other thing is as your are waiting by the water it can get very cold we had woolly hats, gloves, scarves and several fleeces on.

Whatever you end up doing it really is a magical time to go pixiedust:

Are there any Dis meets organised? It would be lovely to meet some Dissers whilst there :dance3: We have booked Crystal Palace for lunch on Xmas day, last time we went for Xmas we avoided the parks on XMas day as everyone said they would be too busy but we found that the day was a bit of an anti-climax so this time we are going to brave MK! :scared1:

Jen, going back to your original message who did you have to cancel flights with? I had to cancel my holiday to Orlando once because my dad became very ill just before I left and Virgin Atlantic were very good, they refunded me the tax part of the flight which from memory (this was 2006) was about £130, no questions asked, on a very cheap ticket. I booked the flight direct with them & it was not part of a package. It might be worth you checking with the airline if you can get a refund of the tax. Apparently airlines are supposed to refund you this if you don't fly but you have to ask for it. So pleased that you are still going to WDW & Christmas will be here in a flash!
