I'm looking to book at the downtown Holiday Inn. What's baffling me is that they charge a $10 parking fee. This doesn't seem right to me that if you are a guest at their hotel shouldn't they have to provide parking for free? I've never heard of charging for parking. Am I the only one that finds this strange? Thanks

You typically see this in cities where the parking garage/parking lot is owned by a company that's separate from the hotel. Separate ownership may be the case here.

I agree with you, but this seems to be the standard for off site hotels near Disney and other big cities.

Many of the downtown disney hotels charge for parking. I would just rather them include it in my price of the room, so I don't have to think about how mad it makes me!

Thank you for the replies. We have stayed at the Royal Plaza and the Best Western and have never been charged for parking. However, it's been a few years so I don't know if they too now charge for parking.

The hotels in DTD will either charge a parking fee or a resort fee, sometimes both. You have to get farther away to find hotels that don't charge.

They have both...but we booked ours through Southwest and they waivered the resort fees when you book through them. It saved us like $70.

Depends on the part of the country you're in and what area it's in and what everyone else in that area is getting away with (I mean doing). I absolutely agree I'd like to see all the fees rolled up into one price so I don't have to feel nickel and dimed. However, once it's fully disclosed AND you decide to book. Do everyone a favor and let it go. You're good at math so just add it to you're daily rate when making your decision. Just don't stand at the counter complaining about it when you knew it was coming. In my house we like to quote a favorite movie "They bought their ticket, they knew what they were getting into"--Airplane :rotfl:

Being a former hotel employee (in Philadelphia) I can tell you that a lot of the hotel parking is owned and/or managed by a seperate company. I agree, I wish they would roll it into one especially on the per night resort fees. Most of us have cells and don't need the "free" local calls and the other little things you get for the fee. Just add it into my room rate since I don't have a choice about paying it! As a little sidenote: When I worked at a hotel in center city Philly, as an employee, I received the employee discount on parking....$8 per day or $150 per month. And yes, this was to park at the hotel that I worked at! And yes, the hotel did not own the parking garage at the hotel. This was a few years ago so I am sure the rates have went up. I just stayed at a hotel in Philly over last weekend and the parking rate was $32 per night.

Nope. I don't find it strange. I'm always surprised when places don't charge for parking.

I guess I'm used to it when we travel.
