Has anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Main Gate to Universal at 5905 Kirkman Road? We are a family of 5 and are considering staying here for a few nights to go to Universal.

Im staying there for 3 nights the first weekend in Feb. Have never stayed there before it looks decent enough and it's in walking distance to the parks and has a TGIF attached to it. I think it will be fine. I'm not expecting 4 star luxury just a clean place to sleep.

When you get back please come give us a hotel review. I would love to know also. I probably won't book until the end of February.

Anyone else stay there?

You can look on tripadvisor.com for a lot of recent reviews. Most aren't all that great. The HI Express seems to get much better reviews, although it is more $.
I was still willing to give the Holiday Inn Maingate a try, except when I found out all the rooms are "pet-friendly" and DD has allergy issues.

I've actually read several reviews from TripAdvisor and the most recent ones are pretty good for the most part. I was just looking for more opinions :)

We as a family of 6 satyed there in December 2010 for 2 nights.
It was clean and a nice size room we had a suite. The kids had the 2 double beds and we slept on the fold out bed in the lounge.
I have absolutly no complaints at all - its not mega luxury but it did the job !!!

Maybe it's improved since the renovations were completed. I agree that most of the recent reviews looked pretty good. I saw the "51% would recommend" and was a little scared off for a second, but that was probably from old reviews.

It looks nice from pictures and the rates are pretty good. I just didn't like that all the rooms were pet rooms, but other than that, it's probably worth a try.

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn on International Drive, which is almost walking distance from Universal. It was nice, not the greatest ever, but nice. It also had a very nice pool with a waterfall. I liked it. You may check into that one as well.
