I was thinking about our holiday cards and remembered one of the neatest ones we got last year was a scrapbook page turned into a card. Basically, the lady took several pictures and made a collage on the front of photos during the year (maybe even every season ... I can't remember now). Anyway, then inside she just signed it and had something generic on there like season greetings.

I assume you would have to either make copies of both sides to get the text inside UNLESS you just had pictures small and folded into fourths? Anyone done this or have ideas to share? I would love to do something like this b/c it would be unique and fairly economical, but I am clueless! :) TIA!

This sounds like a neat idea! I am not quite picturing what it looks like though.

you just had pictures small and folded into fourths?

This would probably work!

I would stamp the greeting inside.

You can buy phrase stamps like "Seasons Greetings" "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas".

If you have digital software (like adobe photoshop), you can build your own collage - but if you only have a digi camera - you can buy collage templates to do this (2Peas Photo board has links to some of them) Otherwise, you can build it manually with print pictures and scan the collage in to print or photocopy your collage.

Personally I like single fold cards instead of paper folded to fourths - but if you use cardstock, you could also print it out in large postcard style that you send in an envelope.

good ideas ... I have never done any digital stuff, but I guess I could learn how!

I want to do something different with my Holiday Cards this year. Tired of the store bought ones.

one year I did a scrapbook layout and then made colored copies of it. We had a lot going that year and I could not find just one picture I wanted to use. It was just and 8x10 and on the back I wrote personal notes to a few. I have to send out at least 75 cards so I want homemade but I just cant do too much or I would go crazy this year we are headed to Disney so I hoping my DH will smile (6 year old faze and he has no teeth) and
i can decorate a smiple card with a Disney theme

My CMC does this. She has a workshop each year for her customers. You do a scrapbook page and then she takes it to a Kinkos type place where they make a negative for you. She'll get your cards developed there or send you the negative for you to take elsewhere. They end up being the same size as the photo ones at Costco and Sam's. I haven't done this though ~ I too cheap ;)

We also received on one year from a friend who just put a bunch of pics togther on some holiday paper and had them color copied. It was cute too.

Can't picture this but sounds very nice - wouldn't the pictures be too small once your shrink a scrapbook page to put onto a Christmas Card?

WOW~that is a GREAT idea!

Twinkies- the one I saw was a scrapbook page done with half of a 8x11 page, so it wasn't too small. It had several pictures and a holiday die cut on the page. It was a standard size then folded in half. Does that make sense?

i just did my alyout on a 8x10 and then made color copies

So you have to get extra big envelopes? Does this cost extra to mail?

I'm always trying to think of ways to show multiple photos of the kids at Christmas - never seem to get a good shot of everyone together!

I saw a card once that was folded accordian style - the first picture had a group shot, and then the subsequent pictures were one of each child with a message on the bottom section.

nope I just folded it in a put it in a cute red enive I did decorat the envie as well.

The instructions I have are in PDF so I can't copy and paste them. If I have a chance this weekend I will see if I can type them up here but in the mean time, I really don't mind emailing them out.

thanks guys for the great ideas ... that sounds perfect! :)

Aurora19 - about Photoshop: Can you build your own collage using PSE or do you have to have the 'full' version of PhotoShop?? I was thinking of either buying PSE4 or asking for it for Christmas, but I have never used it so I didn't know what it was capable of! TIA!!!

You create a new canvas (say 8.5 x11) and drag & drop in your photos resized (say 4-6 of them)

You want to make the original large so you can resize the entire completed canvas to the correct print size.

Thanks!! Would you say that for doing collages, and 'storyboards' (like some Christmas cards I've seen people do with multiple pics & backgrounds & text) that PSE would be all I would need? I really appreciate your help!!
