I've used them a few times when hiring from Geneva. They've been a little cheaper than the main hire companies at the airport, and I've never had any hassle with any of the bookings I've made.
That's just what I was hoping to hear - I am looking at HolidayAutos as a possibility for our rental from Geneva as National have now given us a final, final answer of "no" to a possible booking with them, after numerous "maybes" over the past six days
In fact, HA are coming out more expensive than National for the vehicle we want, but if they can find us a vehicle we'll be happy!
Geneva Airport's website (here) lists the on-site car hire companies. I try to compare prices of Holiday Autos with booking direct with these companies to see who works out cheapest.
We got a brilliant deal from them for our trip in October with a Dollar car and Platinum insurance.
And, more importantly, excellent customer service when we had to cancel the holiday with 12 hours notice due to the death of my FIL, and re-book for a week later.
Full refund, (less about £20 admin fee) and sorted out a new car no problem.
The tricky part is that we're looking for a vehicle big enough for 8 passengers plus luggage, and they seem to be thin on the ground. I thought we had one booked, but it seems we don't and I'm trying to sort something out now at fairly short notice (for December 27th).
I'm waiting for HolidayAutos to come back to me, but I'm practising my hitch-hiking technique just in case!
To be honest Hilary, I think you might struggle to find a minivan for 8 people plus ski luggage from Geneva airport. I can't recall seeing anything that large in the garage used by most of the car hire companies. The largest I've seen are the regular people carriers (Espace, etc). I think hiring two cars is probably a more likely option for you.
If you don't need transport while you're in the resort have you thought about booking a private transfer company? There are a few which do this, and the cost might be reasonable if split between 8 people. A few links for you:
We're trying to avoid 2 vehicles as it's only b-i-l who is keen to a)have a vehicle in the resort or b) drive it! He doesn't plan to ski (don't ask ), so a vehicle would be useful for him, but DH and I would be very happy to leave it all up to a transfer company.
Still no news from HA, so I've checked out your links and some of them look very good - if they have availability at this late stage. Because HA wanted cc details to secure the booking by taking payment immediately the vehicle is confirmed, I'm reluctant to follow up any other avenues until I know there's definitely nothing HA can do for us.
