Holes

I liked it a lot, made me want to read the book. Since I had not read the book, it took a while for it to all fall into place for me, but I enjoyed it enough to see it again. Would make more sense the second time.

We saw it yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. The cast was good including Shia LaBeouf who I saw mentioned earlier. Maybe Live Action is Disney's forte nowadays.

'Holes' wasn't actually made by Disney. It was made by Walden Media - an new company that was founded by an educator and two former Miramax executives. They also produced 'Ghosts of the Abyss', the 3-D IMAX documentary about the 'Titanic'.

They have big plans to become a major producer of both family entertainment, a producer of family theatrical shows and of educational media. I believe they have already opened up a theater for family plays (in either Utah or Colorado) and plan to offer touring companies as well. I think their next big movie is a remake of 'Around the World in 80 Days' starring Jackie Chan. They are also producing 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrode' as an animated feature.

Disney's responsibility is to book 'Holes' into theaters and advertise the film, but they had little control over the actual making of the movie. I do not know the exact financial terms of their deal with Disney, but creativity it likely works similar to the Pixar deal: Disney stays out of the production process.

I was in the DisneyStore a few days ago when a couple asked the CM at the register if Disney had any affiliation (sp?) with Holes...she replied "Holes? I've never heard of it...so, I guess not." :p

Disney did a GREAT job with the movie. They didn't change much from the book. They picked pretty big name star to be in it... Sigorny Weaver, John Voight, the kid from Even Stevens (who is adorable!!). It has a great story line and some mystery, I love a movie where you really have to think about whats going on. Like the part of the men in the family being cursed. It's good, and we'll to see it again.

I was very impressed with "Holes" yesterday. I will now be reading the book, and hopefully coercing the non-reading DS into trying it out. Well there's always books on tape on the long trip to WDW at Christmas!. I left the theater saying "Disney might actually make money on this one." It's very well done.

Well my kids loved it and the book.

The kids have seen it twice and would go again in a heart beat.

My daughter has described "Holes" as the best book she has ever read. Our family and another family (kids ranged 3rd grade to 7th grade) just got home from seeing this movie and I have to tell you, I really liked this movie.

We all really liked the movie. I had no idea what the story line was going into it, and I glad I knew nothing about the movie. I really enjoyed trying to figure out where it was going.

I hope my daughter wants to see it again.

If you haven't seen "Holes" already...give it a shot.
