Thumbs up from the Zurg family....we all really enjoyed it tonight...It makes more sense if you have read the book though....

Thanks! We were going to try to see it today, but got side tracked. Nice to hear a good review!

We are planning on seeing it Easter Sunday!

DS is 11, knows the story and wants to see the movie. Would DD like it too, she's 8.

We took all the kids 11, 10 , 9, and 5...the five year old liked all but the mean lizards....Other then that it was pretty tame....All of us enjoyed it..

DS 14, DD 13, and I just saw it...we all loved it!
DS was the only one of us who had read the book.
If it ever comes out on dvd, we want to own it!
Excellent story with no boring parts, in our opinion.:D

We just got back about an hour ago. Husband wasn't eager to go, but son (9) and I made him. Result? We all loved the movie, including husband. He didn't have any ideas about it, but son is reading the book and I saw the stuff on the Disney channel, plus read two great reviews. We will probably go back again PLUS get the DVD when it comes out. Disney finally has a great movie for boys.

We also got to see the preview for Pirates of the Caribbean. It looked a little scary, but still neat.

Just got back after seeing it with my 9 yo son and 11 yo daughter (my son has been begging to see it all week). They loved it and I thought it was very well done. I was impressed at the cast, the adults in particular. Voight was outstanding and Tim Blake Nelson was very entertaining as the "counselor". It took me a couple of minutes until I could place Nelson's past work as the the "dumb" sidekick in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" ("Oh, George! Not the livestock!") I also see that Roger Ebert gave "Holes" 3 1/2 stars, not bad.

P.S. I also thought the POTC pre-views looked better than I expected. When I first heard of it, I thought "Oh no, not another ride rip-off movie!"

At the end of the movie, did it come out that Jon Voight's character was once a woman??

Jodi1980...where did you come up with that????? about the Character being a woman...wasn't in the book or the movie...

Our family saw Holes yesterday and we all liked it very much!! I had read this book with my daughter a couple of years ago and they did a great job from what I could remember. Jodi1980, they say something about his name being a girls name, I think that was it though.

I believe that Voight's character was just expressing dislike at his actual first name. BTW, my wife and I each have/had an uncle Marion. But mine dislikes his name too and goes by his middle name of "Joe".

I remember the Marion reference in the Movie but it was clear it hadn't anything to do with him being the a woman...

When Voight's character is arrested at the end there's an exchange like this:

Texas Ranger who ID's Voight: "Sooo... If it isn't Marion (I can't remember his last name)"

Kid: "Marion! That doesn't sound like a guy's name!"

Voight (with disgust in his voice): "It's not!"

Two thumbs up for Holes....go see it!

We went to see it on Easter Sunday...DW, DS(5),DS(11) and I loved it. We might go see it again.

PS - I agree the POTC preview was great! Can't wait to see it.
