Holding Points understanding?

Hi I just had to leave a day early from a trip. They put my points from the final night we had to cancel into holding.
I know these must be used by the end of this use year however I am unsure of one thing
I was chatting with a member services rep and asked that when I booked something if the holding points would automatically be used first. The response was as long as I am booking according to “holding point rules”. So I looked them up and am a bit unsure
To use points in holding the booking must be something in a 60 day window? So if my use year is February I have to have travel completed before end of January 2025?
But to use the holding points if I were to book a trip it must be within the next 60 days. if I book something that in say November now my holding points will not be applied correct?
Am I understanding this correctly?

The check-in date must be within 60 days that the booking is made… so you could make a reservation today for anything checking in 8/29 or prior, but would have to wait to book anything later in the UY.

How I explained it to my wife sans details: Points from a last minute cancellation can only be used for a last minute booking.

I think you can try this. If you have enough points left outside of those in holding, you can book now for anything up until Jan 31, 2025. Let’s say it’s a trip for Nov 1st, you will use non-holding points. When you are wihtin 60 days, Sep 1st, modify the reservation. Just click through without changing anything and then the system should grab the holding points and release the non-holding points. You need to do this Sep 1st - 29th because you don’t want the non-holding points to go into holding. In addition, banking deadline for non-holding points is Sep 30th.

Yes, as long as the new reservation is 60 days or less from checkin.
