Holding Points Still Being Waived (Late June 2020)?

With the park openings arguably being somewhat in limbo and no announcement as to a status change thus far, we are seriously questioning our trip the first week of August. We want to go if the gates are open, but it's a high point week and we are blowing a lot of points for what could become a resort only stay. My 30 day window is only a couple of days out.

If they decide that the parks will remain closed in a week or two, we would probably cancel, but only if holding is waived. With availability being what it is, I don't think there's enough wiggle room to play the 60 day window on the remainder of our June UY and with almost 250 points in play, it's not a die I'm willing to roll. We want to go, and we may go regardless. I would just like to know what all of our options are.

I had to cancel my trip next weekend yesterday and holding is still being waived as well as borrowed points being returned.

The CM said I may even get back the 15 points I thought were ineligible.

I would be surprised to see holding go back into effect this summer..

Do they automatically send the points back if I cancel online? I'm not sure I WANT To do that as I already borrowed more than the 50%.....

No...they do not go back automatically. I was told hopefully by Thursday as they do the sweep then.

So, if you cancel and then get them into your new reservation before they go back, you are set.

Mine are still there 24 hours later.

I canceled something a few days ago online and nothing went into holding.

We canceled on June 18th and our 2020 points were unborrowed (Aug UY) with no issue.

They go back automatically. No need to call.

We called MS today about our September Aulani trip and were told if the resort is closed and we let MS cancel it would be cancelled 3 weeks out and points would go into holding. She told us to cancel prior to 30 days if we don’t want them in holding.

FYI to help people considering canceling ... I just (via chat, no wait to get an agent) canceled our reservation that was supposed to start 7/22. All of the points were put back in 2020 UY. No holding. The agent was able to bank all of those points into 2021 for me.

We have an October HHI trip booked, and with the numbers in SC, we are thinking we may not be able to go. I know October is a while off, but to cancel more than 30 days out, we have to make a decision in six weeks. If they reinstate holding close to our trip, is it possible to just modify the reservation without penalty. We are using mostly 2019 banked points and have until May 31, 2021 to use them. If we can't go this October, we will probably move the trip back to April 2021. Couldn't I go in and modify the reservation instead of cancelling to avoid holding points?

You would still need to modify by 31 days out to avoid holding points.

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure how that worked. Knowing my luck, at 31 days out, they will still be waiving the holding points, but then a couple of weeks out, they will put it back in place and we will have to cancel.

Yeah, it's the same for cancelling or modifying. But I understand the frustration of not knowing when the holding rules will go back to normal. It makes it very hard to plan.
