Holding hands on FJ ride?

I am a massive HP fan and although normally a chicken on rides, I would like to try the FJ, my DS7 is also often scared on rides, but would like to try this one, and he meets the height requirements. However I read in the unofficial guide book yesterday that the seats are compartmenalised and you can't see the person next to you or hold hands - can anyone let me know if this is true?
Thanks:thumbsup2

Hmmm.... my hubby only rode once and decided it wasn't for him. So I'm no expert but it seems like if you both reached your hand out you could? But honestly you get knocked around pretty good and you'll be holding onto your harness.

What kind of rides do you not like? We might be able to make you feel a little better about riding! ;)

It'd probably be easier to squeeze your boy's knee than hold their hand, but you won't really have any time to think about anyone - it's a fast ride!

On the plus side, though, you CAN see your son, if you put your head right back against the seat and look to the side. There's actually a small opening between the seats that I didn't notice the first four times I rode. After that, we all talked to each other through the openings, instead of leaning forward to peer around the restraints.

Here's what it felt like to me - you sit down in a nice, comfy, secure little pod. You get lifted up and then suddenly you're being tilted in every direction EXCEPT upside down. There's no inversion (which made me happy!). It's smooth, not jarring, but the changes in angle are quite swift. You lean forward and backward (almost onto your back), and you WILL want to hang onto the restraints (it's set up so that there's a basically a hand grip in front of you).

While all this is going on, you're moving from virtual environments into "stage sets" and back again. The transitions are astonishingly smooth.

Word of advice... Unless you're a Pooh-sized person, don't sit in an end seat - those are sometimes extra-large for riders with "unusual body dimensions" and whenever my skinny butt landed in them, I found myself with a lot of air under my seat. Every time the ride changed direction, I'd come right up and then back down with a thump, and sometimes I'd slide from one side of the seat to the other. I know there was no chance of me falling out, but it didn't feel very secure.

So unless you feel you need the extra room, try to avoid those seats. We made my husband sit on the end after we figured this out, since he's the largest among us and actually appreciated the extra shoulder room. My kids then got to fight over who had the other end seat.

Here is a picture of the seats. You should be able to hold hands but I advise that you hold on instead.

My friend and I held hands during the ride because she is afraid of spiders. We couldn't see each other but she stretched her hand over to my side and I grabbed it.

Hope that helps!

I too am a big chicken. I don't do roller coasters at all. I can tell you that like you, I am a big Potter fan and wanted to try the ride. I LOVED IT! It was very smooth, especially compared to what you normally experience in a motion simulator type ride. (This isn't all motion simulator, you do move some, but its really great) There was no point where I felt like I needed to close my eyes or anything. In fact, I felt myself looking all over trying to take in and catch all the details of the ride. Even the line is amazing. Disney son sat next to me and I was able to reach over and pat his hand to check if he was ok (he loved it too).

My son and I rode it 6 times, and each time he wanted me to hold his hand. It was a little uncomfortable, but very do-able. Have fun!

Thank you so much everyone for such great desciptions! I do feel a little better now, and def want to try the ride, will let you know how it goes when I get back!

I am a ride chicken, so I have no personal experience with the ride. We went in December, and my dd (14) and her friend (15) both hated the ride. Both of them will ride anything, but they both said they would not ride it again. I would not let me son (9) ride it until they had ridden it first. The girls, and my husband, agreed that it was too intense. He did, however, ride the Dragon Challenge and loved that. Everyone's reaction is going to be different, but I would personally be leery of putting a child who is afraid of rides on it.

My and my DH did this ride Jan. 6th. I am not into those simulated rides (was sick of the Simpsons ride) but wanted to try this. I held hands with my DH the whole time. I don't see any issues with that. I did hold the handle with my other hand. I was glad when it was over. I wasn't as sick as the Simpsons ride but it made my stomach ache and even DH said that it made his upset as well and he loves the Simpson ride. I will do this ride only for the pic and that is it. My DH is all about buying every pic for every ride.

I notice from the earlier photo that your feet are dangling and this may sounds silly but how far from the floor are you? I'm not a great height lover and not a big fan of not being able to feel anything under my feet but I really want to try it, even if its just the once.

They do try to make you feel like you are flying at a great height, but I've seen photos with the lights on and you're never more than 10 feet or so from the ground as far as I could tell.

My DH is petrified of heights but he was fine with this ride.
Also, DD is usually a ride chicken but really wanted to ride this. So we put her in between us and when the spiders and the dementors came up we put our hands on her knees. Of course this was totally unplanned on our parts but the picture is hysterical. DH and I both had our hands on her knees when the photo was taken. :rotfl2: Guess we were thinking the same thing. :goodvibes

But DD loved the ride and would do it again. :thumbsup2
