Hold my hand?

I'm going for an MRI this afternoon. I actually kind of enjoy MRI's (this will be my fourth...two of my spine and one of my brain previously). I just close my eyes and fall asleep, even with all that banging! But this MRi is of my brain and they're doing one with and one without contrast, which I've never had before. I'm more worried about the injection of the dye than the MRI!

And WHAT are they looking for today? Micro-tumors in my pituitary gland. :scared1:

So yes, I am having a bit of a freak out. The doctor who ordered the test CLAIMS that these tumors aren't cancerous or precancerous, but they put pressure on the gland which causes an overabundance of some hormone. But I am just freaking out that I will be the 1 in a million who DOES have a cancerous tumor or that these will be so big they will require surgery. The standard treatment for these micro-tumors is to take a medication that the doctor already put me on. It shrinks them.

So, since DH is working and I have to go it alone, would anybody like to virtually hold my hand today? :worried:

Sure I will hold your hand. Hope it all turns out well for you. I am waiting for insurance approval on CAT scan so I know what you are going through. They are thinking cancer so the CAT scan will rule it out. You hang in there and I hope that you aren't the 1 in a million and that its all good.

I've held the hands of both of my sons as they did MRIs, one on his brain, so I'm experienced. I know it (the potential diagnosis, not the MRI) is scary -- I'm squeezing your hand in support!

I'll hold your hand! I've had to go it alone for some tests in my day - I'll be with you "in spirit". Good Luck! :flower3:

I will virtually hold your hand. I am sure everything will be fine. Treat it like a spa experience. A very loud spa experience.:goodvibes

You guys is da best!

The doctor referred to this as a "fact finding" mssion since the treatment for the condition is the same whether I have the lil' tumors (Prolactinomas) or not. The medication. She just would like to know if they are there. Surgery is rarely called for...rarely, not NEVER. That's what freaks me out.

Has anyone ever had the contrast MRI? My sister tells me that it makes you feel like you have to pee.

I've had two contrast MRI's and it was no worse than a regular MRI. First they do the regular MRI, pull you out and then give you the IV stuff, just a prick in the arm like a blood draw, then they pop you back in and you're done in no time! I am claustrophobic, but as long as they cover my eyes with a cloth, I am good to go.

My tests revealed a "normal" brain...good I guess, but they have never figured out what's wrong with me. Hope your brain is "normal"!

Here's my hand. :)

I have had two MRI's with contrast and I took some drugs to help me relax. I did fine. I didn't feel anything out of the ordinary with the contrast.

I have a male friend who had trouble conceiving with his wife because of the same tumors you are talking about. He took meds and is fine now - with two boys.

Lots and lots of luck to you!

Good luck!! Sending positive thoughts your way. :)

My oldest dd had a contrast MRI on her heart a couple of yrs ago, when she was 18. She has a repaired heart defect.

Now that was a biggie and she sailed through it. They were checking the levels of leakage and other stuff to make sure she did not need an valve job.

Good Luck!

I had 4 brain MRIs in 2 1/2 months last year with contrast in preparation for surgery.
Now, from what I remember, the contrast is not bad. I can't really explain it but yes, make sure you go to the bathroom before the test because it can make you feel like you have to pee. It can make you feel a little warm as they inject it but that goes away very quickly.

I have had MRIs and CTs with contrast for my brain and abdomen and never had a problem.

But, for the brain MRIs I was on xanax durign the MRIs so what I remember is kind of minimal so for me it was a gret expereince....lol

I'll hold your hand. I had 4 MRI's 1 for my brain and 3 for my back and I believe the last one on my back had dye injected. I choose a open MRI and brought my own music. It will be all right.

Sending prayers that everything went well and your results are normal. :grouphug:
