Also, how long does it take (think family w/ little kids) to walk door to door from Hojos on Harbor to the turnstiles at DL? We're going stroller-less this year-- pray for us.

I've never been to Hojo's so I can't comment on that specfically. But an 8-10 minute walk might be farther than you think. I suggest you gather up the kids and take an 8 minute walk around your neighborhood just to see how long it really is.

Another suggestions, since your kids may walk slower, is to use a site like www.mapmywalk.com. With it, you can measure out the distance between Hojo's and Disneyland. Then take that measurement and measure out a route the same distance around your own neighborhood. Then for the weeks leading up to the trip, you can take the kids and "practice" walking to Disneyland. It might be fun to note the businesses you pass along the way and name the houses on your home walk accordingly. This way the kids will learn the route and know by what they pass how close you are to the park or hotel.

8-10 is about right. The walk back at the end of the day can be about 15 though due to tired feet.

I'll be both excited and sad when we start going strollerless. No more stroller to move around but that means my youngest won't be my baby anymore.

The hotel advertises an 8 min walk in their info binder in the room. So I timed it to see if they were correct. It took us 8 min from the time we left HoJo property to be at the gates of the parks. This was with young children (ages 5 and 7). With younger children, it would be somewhere between 8 and 10.

Our first day was about 10 minutes. But feet get to hurting after that, and I'd say it was closer to 15 most of the time. Especially at the end of the day. It wasn't super bad or anything. But I remember looking at all the closer motels on the way there, and wished we stayed closer!

Now we stay at the Tropicana, which is just so nice if we need to go back quickly for naps, at the end of the night ect...

We're a little OCD so we time it each time. 7 minutes to 9 minutes depending on wait for traffic lights. We start time from the lobby and stop time at security walkthrough (and the reverse on our way back to the hotel). Doesn't make a difference whether we go on the DL side or the hotel side, but DL side feels faster because there are fewer people to trample :)
This is with 2 small kids; 1 in a stroller usually.

We were 2 adults a 10 year old and 2 1/2 year old in a stroller (most of the time) and I would say it was 10 minutes. Coul dbe more if we let her out more. It really wasn't bad at all.

Door to Turnstile will depend where on property you are... Most will quote 7 or 8 minutes but thats from the edge of the property to Security check... I would budget for at least 15 minutes from door to Turnstile queue but with a very young one and if at the back of the property you may have to allow for 20...

Hotel-side gives you two intersections. Disney-side gives you one*. I've always had a longer walk on the hotel side, if only because of the second intersection (but also b/c of bigger crowds and all the driveways with cars and delivery trucks wanting to come through).

*you have to use the cab-area cut through...turn right once you're at the bus stops and walk across the yellow, textured crossing area, which puts you in the area where buses/shuttles dropoff and pickup. That's how you avoid the second crosswalk area.

Anyone had any issues walking back to HoJo's later at night? Like around 11pm?

I'll be doing that walk with my kids since my husband has decided to have 2 evenings when he is out meeting his friends and may even have a 3rd later in the trip.

So I decided it would be a good time for the kids and I to enjoy the parks a little without him and I'm a bit concerned about the walk back at night.

We walked back two nights after the park closed on midnight and felt totally safe. There will be a huge herd of people walking with you too. The park is really great at night. Be sure to do the jungle cruise at night. It looks totally different! So does the storybook cruise:wizard:

To us the walk was short. Most days we did it twice (children aged 6 & 9). One day we walked to DL and back during the day, and then on the same day walked to PPH (through DTD) and back in the evening. We were eating so much fast food food it felt good to be walking some of it off lol.
And we felt safe at night too.

Excellent. Thanks very much.

Guess I'm a little on the OCD side as well. I counted 755 steps from the Disneyland resort sign, (not the actual turnstile) to the check-in office. We had an 8 year old in our group of ten, but even on return it never took us 15 minutes. And yes, we felt completely safe even after the parks closed.
