I am sort of planning a trip in my head for october to disney land. we will see. I am thinking of staying at Howard Johnson. We would like a day trip to the San Diego Zoo. It looks like if you book right through Disney to stay at HoJo they give you an option to add on day trips and one is the San Diego Zoo. They have an option for tickets+transportation. How does this transportation work? is it a shuttle bus we will catch right at DL? .. Have any of you done this!! Thanks in advance.

LOL, I'm so new they won't let me post a normal URL!
You might consider a SoCal CityPass, depending on how big/long a trip you're planning. Includes 3-day pass for DLR, plus SD Zoo and SD Sea World.
I'm planning an Oct 2012 DLR trip with a good chance of staying at Anaheim HoJo, so I'd love to hear more! That bus option looks like a nice way to use the SD part of a CityPass without needing to drive yourself and find a SD hotel.

I haven't booked through Disney, but I have booked a day trip to San Diego through this company. http://www.graylinevacations.com/Anaheim/View_All They picked us up and dropped us off right in front of the Howard Johnson. It was a commuter bus and was so much more convenient then driving ourselves.

I've used grayline quite regularly and would highly recommend them for day trips to places - especially if you can't (or don't want to) drive there :thumbsup2

I should also add that with grayline sometimes your tickets (like entry into seaworld) are included in the price of the tour. :thumbsup2

Thank you all for your answers. I will look into the gray line buses.

However has anybody booked the San Diego trip right through with Disney? ... I' am really curious how that works.

we use grayline when we did our so. cali vacation and everything was PERFECT!!! we stayed @ hojos in a disney view room, we watched wishes from our balcony and could hear it. we bought the so.cali city pass which was the best deal ever! we did DL for 3 days, seaworld, san diego zoo, universal studios/LA tour, it was so much fun and the bus picked us up right in front of hojos. everything was easy peasy. we didn't drive anywhere!!! we are now planning another trip in 2013 for the disney cruise, and we are thinking about staying @ hojos again! we couldn't get over the size of the rooms and how you could just walked into DL. we are used to WDW where you have to take the bus to every park. so, it was a big change for us. have fun!!! we also did the vons grocery delivery and it was awesome too!!

BTW, i booked everything myself. we got an unlimited ticket thru grayline that was a really good price. i called in my ressie for hojos, and bought our so. cali. tickets thru costco and they were delivered to my house. i didn't book anything thru disney.

The Disney package uses the same Grayline Tour company. They have designated pick-up points (one of them might be the HoJo). I think a shuttle goes to the different hotels to pick guests up and will take you to the bus that will go down to the zoo. The bus driver will tell you you where and when to get back on the bus to ride back to the HoJo & other Anaheim hotels.
