Hojo rooms

BIG HoJo Anaheim fans here! We stay here whenever we can esp if we can get the retro rate! :thumbsup2
We have stayed in the Premium Disney View rooms 2x now & have a Halloween trip booked into one as well and we have stayed 1x in a Deluxe Room facing the garden pool.
I will first address the Premium rooms.....we love waking up to see the Matterhorn every morning (as previously mentioned, IF our trip falls over the rehab, this may be an issue?). It's kind of a tradition...first one up pulls the curtains open & that's the first thing we see. :cloud9: We have never watched the fireworks from the room but I hear that you are certainly able to. We also love the 7th floor rooms with the skylights. They feel so roomy & the morning sun coming in is so nice (unless of course you like to sleep in?).
We were not fans of the Garden Pool facing rooms (building 2)...but many here are. It was very quiet over there & the rooms were alright but we prefer having that view.
I tried talking my hubby into trying a room in the Pavillion buildings on our upcoming trip but he didn't want to give up that view. So I guess it depends on the individual. For some that might not matter. For others it is all part of the experience.
For us the staff at the HoJo is a huge part of the reason that we keep coming back. Every time I have had a complaint, it has been dealt with immediately, my requests are almost always granted (& if they can't be they are addressed with an explanation), & the customer service is second to none. They make you feel like family & we can't wait to return to our home away from home. :thumbsup2

Ok, what is this retro rate I keep hearing about?
It's a special rate that comes with the Entertainment Card. If you have one, and the dates are available, you can request the rate,
It's non refundable, non cancelable though, but it's a pretty good one. I booked the kids suite with a $129 retro rate :cool1:

Hi:goodvibes,

When I booked my retro rate room a few days ago I was told I could cancel up to 30 days before. I thought this was wrong & it was now non refundable, non cancellable so I e-mailed so that I would have this in writing.
The reply I got was that they had decided that non refundable, non cancellable was too 'harsh' and had changed it again to 30 days:confused3

We just got back recently from our 1st trip to Disneyland and stayed at the HOJOs for 6 nights at the retro rate ($69 2 Queen Deluxe ) in Building 2 Garden Pool facing room. Overall we really enjoyed our stay there and will probably stay there again next time we are in Disneyland.

Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable beds, quiet rooms (except when fireworks were going off), bathrooms with double sinks, microwave and small refrigerator, Keurig coffee machine that came with 4 K-Cups (Green Mountain breakfast blend, I believe), free newspaper in the gift shop, plenty of dresser and closet space for family of 4, Pirates Cove play area for kids. Note:They would replenish the K-Cups when we did have our rooms clean.

We preordered groceries from Von's and had them deliver them to HOJOs the night we arrived. This worked great as we ate breakfast in our rooms and packed lunches and snacks to cut costs while in the park. FYI- the refrigerator is pretty small, about the size of a large microwave or tiny dorm fridge. It has one middle shelf in it where you can put groceries on the top or bottom. It would be difficult to fit a gallon of milk in it, but you can easily fit a half gallon on the side of the door. You may be able to fit two 1/2 gallons, one in the door and one laying on its side below the shelf. There is also a very small freezer "cubbie" in the top right corner of the fridge (worked great for ice packs and a few bottles of water). In the refrigerator we were able to fill it with a few water bottles, 1/2 gallon milk, package of string cheese, cream cheese, lunch meat, yogurt, gogurt, small creamer for coffee, large bag of sugar snap peas, and some apples.

Cons: There were only a few minor cons about the stay at HOJOs. First of all the TVs seem to be really dated, at least the one in our room. With park hours closing at 8pm, I like to watch a little bit of sports before headed to bed. I have real good vision and I couldn't even make out the score on any of the ESPN channels. Also sometimes when we tried to turn on the TV, we could hear it click on and then it would immediately turn off. Another nitpicky thing would be that there store doesn't carry milk bigger than a single serving, so it can get pretty expensive if you run out of milk for cereal. Finally the last thing which is probably more me than the room is the air conditioner. I like to sleep where the room is incredibly cold and have a constant white noise in the background. If I turned on the AC on its max setting it would stay on for awhile and then turn off. It was not a digital AC but had dials where you can turn to cold or colder. A few times in the middle of the night the AC would turn off and the room would slowly warm back up. The AC would not kick back on unless I toggled the dial back and forth between the heater and AC setting. I found myself waking up a few times throughout the night while I was there toggling the AC dials trying to get it to "reset". I could have left the fan on all night for the white noise but then the room wasn't cool enough.

Other thoughts: I honestly thought the walk would be somewhat tiresome after reading some posts on this site. However, I never had any difficulty with the walk and it personally would not affect my decision whether or not to stay there. In fact it seemed a lot longer to walk from attractions from the far end of Disneyland to the far end of California Adventure than it was to walk from HOJOs to Disneyland. I found it very pleasant, flat, and it was a plus being so close to Mimi's and McDonalds. We went back and forth a couple of times during the day and never dreaded it. However, we did have strollers for our 4 and 2 year old and could see how it would be difficult for them to walk back and forth.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at HOJOs and will probably stay there again next time I visit.

Can someone tell me do you have to call to get this retro rate or can you do it online? I have the card and I have been researching the best prices but I hadn't seen anything on the retro rate. TIA>

The view thing: this is very personal. Every time I see someone post that they wouldn't pay extra for a view, I think they're crazy. I love a good view. We also spend more time in the room than many, I think. We nap and hang. If I ever stay at Hojos I will make sure we get a view. Wouldn't go without it.

There's a link in the HoJo Anaheim website where the dates and rates are displayed. I'm sorry I don't have it, but I guess you can google it? or just look for it in the website.
When you book, indicate that you have the EC and you want that rate.
Good luck!

We love HoJo *especially the retro rate, rooms as low as $59 per night! The walk is very doable. I agree with 8 minutes, it certainly isn't 8 blocks. We've stayed there at least 3 times, my sister and her family stayed there last year *per my reccomendation and had a fantastic time.

I've been waiting for a review like this! I too am planning to stay @ HOJO. Its the only resort that really caught my eye. I have 3 boys and can see them loving the water park area. Which building is closer to the water park area????

I always book with one of the reservation specialists personally. Make sure that you are speaking with IN HOUSE reservations as you may get re-directed to one of the 1-800 agents. On the HoJo Anaheim website there is a page that lists all of the dates that the retro rate is available. It's in the "discussion boards" under "discounts", I believe. I just search it every time I need it. :)

I totally agree!!! Like I posted above...I was excited to try a Pavillions room but my hubby didn't want to give up the view. Not even for $30 less a night. And we have never watched the fireworks from the room. Hopefully on this upcoming trip we will! It's all about looking onto the parks for him (well I love it too but I also like to save $$! lol). We esp love seeing the cars zipping around the Matterhorn & hearing the guests scream with joy!

There is a map on the HoJo anaheim website that shows you the entire complex's layout. I love this & even though we have stayed here many times I look at it often when trying to make room decisions. :thumbsup2 It is under the "getting here" tab & then "maps". Buildings 1, 3 & 4 are the closest buildings. Building #2 is the furthest. HTH!

I agree! No matter where we stay (Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian, Paradise Pier, or Hojos) we always are willing to pay a bit more for the view. We love a good view, and since this is a vacation--I think that adds to it.

We also tend to spend a good amount of time in the room. We always go back in the afternoons and spend a good 2-3 hours relaxing in our room. My kids love looking out the window at this time.

The view from Hojos is not only good because you can see the park, but the fireworks view is excellent. You can hear the music from the park as well. We were there last weekend staying on the 7th floor, and one night saw fireworks from the park--and the next night we watched them from our room.

I think the 7th floor premium rooms are more quiet as well, since there is no one above you. My friend stayed in a Garden/pool room, and she said she had very noisy neighbors, but the times we have stayed at Hojos on the 7th floor we never hear anyone around us. The only thing we hear is the freeway noise (it is a white noise and didn't keep us up)--and the fireworks when they go off (and they are LOUD!).
