HoJo or Candy Cane Inn?

Can anyone help us decide on which hotel? We're debating between Candy Cane Inn (possibly a premium room or whatever the bigger one's called) and HoJo. This will be a first trip for my dh and my FIL. Which would you recommend?

How many people are going? Just the three of you?

IF price were identical (unlikely), I THINK I would go for the Candy Cane Inn. It appears all the rooms have 2 queen beds (many at Hojo have two "oversized doubles" which feel much smaller to me, even though it's officially only a 6" difference). They're well within walking distance, but they offer their own shuttle if you need that. It's just a pleasant hotel.

Generally Hojo will be cheaper though--certainly if you're getting the Candy Cane Inn's highest-end room--and they're a good hotel too. I was actually disappointed in the 2 queen Park View rooms at Hojo--our view was OK (and if they've cut down the trees they said they were going to cut down, it would be even better!). But there were numerous issues, some of which were fixed (either quickly or somewhat less quickly) and some of which we didn't complain about because we figured they were part and parcel with having an older room. I think my expectations were higher because they were the most expensive/"best" rooms the whole property had to offer, so I wasn't expecting to have four problems with the room.

We liked Hojo (and the prices!) well enough to stay again in some lower-tier "garden view" rooms in mid-December and everything was great. The room had two sinks (our Premium room only had one). The heater was old and loud but we only used it once the whole trip, so that helped keep the noise down (which kept us in a better mood). The "oversized double" beds being smaller than expected was really the only "complaint" I'd have. The service was wonderful and if we looked out our patio/balcony we could see the monorail track. :) It wasn't a Premium room but it wasn't anything near Premium prices so we were happy.

If you're going to use the Internet, Hojo offers wired Internet. I'd recommend you bring your own cord; in a garden view room, at least, 14' was enough to take the connection from its default location of the nightstand (!) to the table near the beds. The first time we stayed there, the Internet wouldn't work and they had to get a technician out there (who came a lot later than expected; we'd already gone back to the hotels after our mid-afternoon break!).

We really liked Hojo when we stayed there back in Sept 08. The room was fairly roomy to us and we enjoyed the free internet connection as well. Good luck!

I'd like to put a vote in for HOJO's. Stayed there for 7 days in feb this year, and had a wonderful time. The only real difference is that IMHO that HOJO's has a better pool, but if that's not a priority for you, than the Candy Cane Inn is also a good choice. You can't go wrong with either hotel, and it comes down to a matter of personal choice.

Thanks for the replies. We're also bringing our 2.5 year old dd (she's been before, we went with my mother in October). My FIL wants to make arrangements today, so I guess I'll push for the HoJo (plus he gets a military discount, which I see they have).

We have stayed at both hotels & really enjoyed them both. :)

We did the Premium Room at the CCI & it was lovely. The room was big enough for the 4 of us, nicely decorated, well kept & the daily in-room contental breakfast was wonderful. :) The welcome ammenity was a nice touch (Mickey candies for the kids). The kids thought that was great! Oh I could go on & on....we would stay there again in a heartbeat.

That being said, we have stayed at the HoJo on our last 2 trips. The rooms we have had were nice, the staff goes above & beyond, Pirates Cove is a hit with the kids.....it is just an all around great hotel. If you can get the Entertainment Rate it is even better! :thumbsup2

Good luck with your decision! I personally think that you can't go wrong!

Where do you find the Entertainment rate? When I checked the website (entertainment.com) it is the same rate as MouseSavers and Expedia and direct with Hojo.

Any help -

We are staying 3/31 - 4/2.

Here's their website forum...

you have to call their in house reservation desk during normal work hours to book the rate, it can't be done through the toll free number, or on off hours, weekends etc. in the forum all the details are there, including when it is available. It's such a good deal!! I see your dates are not available at this time, but if you book and keep watching, and the dates come up, you can call and they will change it for you.
We are on our way there, had to check in here one last time for any last minute tips.... Hojo's and Disneyland here we come!! :cool1:

Wanted to come back and thank everyone again for the advice. HoJo was totally booked for the days we're looking for, so we're staying at Candy Cane Inn anyway lol! We ended up booking a deluxe room, this will be my FIL's first time to Disney. :goodvibes
