HOJO Hints & Tips

We sure do!

First words out of my husband's mouth when I said we should change to save money was "do they sell beer at the Hojo?".

Just trying to decide if we should just have the cab stop at a grocery store so dh can go in and buy his essentials?;)
I think I love that guy.

hi amy...i ***-u-me you are the amy part of "amy&dan"....lol

anyway, cool... you are a neighbor too! we did live in arapahoe county until last november.

looks llike our trips miss each other by a coupke weeks, if im doing the math right from your ticker....

have a great time!

They do have beer. :) In the store... wasnt very cold, but we put it in the freezer for a bit and it was fine. :)

Much less than $900 worth if that's what you're thinking, which would make you a DISer after my own heart...plus the room fridges aren't that big. It is obvious that you are from Colorado, though. We loves us some beer here.

Well the fridges at Hojo's are really big (for small fridges!) :lmao: lot's of room for beer etc!
You lucky Americans can order stuff from Vons and have it delivered right to Hojo's! not sure if that would include alcohol though.... :confused3 We always drive down now so have our own wheels for grocery store runs.

I know this is an old thread but I just read ALL 13 pages in anticipation of our October trip to HoJo and wanted to thank everyone who took the time to share tips (especially on room location!).

Any new tips?

Also, we're going with our 2 girls who will be 2 and 5 in October. I currently have a Premium Disney View room with 2 Queens (all the suites are booked) but wondering if I should change to a Deluxe room to get into Building 2 by the garden pool. We anticipate we'll end our nights by 7 pm and perhaps watch the fireworks from our room, but the biggest priority really is getting a quiet room. DH is a light sleeper (he doesn't even like the white noise of an AC unit going). Thus I'm worried about the Premium view rooms in Building 1 and freeway noise.

Thanks in advance!

I have never had a noisy premium view room. Once the door is closed it is quiet. We have always been atleast halfway across the building from the freeway or more.

I also can't stand white noise, including an A/C.

Have a great trip!

We always stay in a Deluxe 2-Queen room by the garden pool. It's very quiet and relaxing there, and convenient to the garden pool. If DH is a light sleeper as you say, I'd definitely change. You'll be happy you did.

I stayed here as a boy and will be taking my kids in October to this hotel for the first time. Thanks for the helpful info, everyone! We booked it on May 5 and they added the Entertainment Book rates on May 6th for 3 of our nights so we just called and knocked off $120 (2 rooms). We tried to stay here last year for our first trip to Disney with the kids but it was all full so we just figured we would book earlier this time. We booked the premium rooms because it looks like we will be able to see them on Sunday night and Tuesday night (Halloween party night). Last year during our 5 night fall trip, we only had fireworks on Sunday.

Thanks for bumping this thread back up!! I had forgotten about it! I'm starting to gather thing for our first ever family disney trip! We leave in 22 days, and we'll be staying in a kids suite.

Quick question... I saw several people in this thread mention needing a power strip. Can I ask why? Are there not many outlets? :confused3 I just added it to my list, but need to be prepared with an answer when dh asks why on earth I'm packing everything plus the kitchen sink! lol!

We just got back from a Deluxe 2-Queen room, and while the room was very quiet usually, it was really loud during the fireworks, especially the 11:30pm fireworks that they did for the Pirate's Premier. I don't know how our DS managed to sleep through them. We always use a white noise generator (rain sound), so that probably helped.

That's not noise, that's fireworks! :rotfl: :yay: :yay:

I guess I'm never in the room during fireworks - I'm either in the park or HoJo's back parking lot, watching them. Thanks for the info, though.

We always pack a power strip because with 4 cell phones, 2 ipods, a netbook, a laptop and 3 cameras, there are NEVER enough outlets near a desk/table. Sometimes I also bring an adapter for near the sink for hair dryer, nightlight, hair straightener and electric razor.

This thread is great! From what I have read building 4 facing the pool is a godd area - what type of rooms do they have? Is it only the deluxe queens and standard doubles?

I booked a couple of months ago and I had not clue about ...well, anything about HoJo so I booked a 2 queen standard. Is this type only in building 1? Any good rooms of this type?

When should I call to make any room requests? Should I try to call and change the 2 queen for a 2 double?

That makes sense! Thanks for responding!

Bumping to see if anyone can answer my question or has suggestions :surfweb:

If you booked a 2 queen standard, that should be in building 1, freeway side. 2 queen deluxe are in building 2. 2 queen premium are in building 1, Disney side. The rooms with two beds in buildings 3-6 are standards with 2 double beds.

Since 2 queen standard and 2 double standard seem to generally be priced the same, you should be able to call and change your room type if the room type you want is still available. I would do it ASAP if you have particular requests.

The first year we went, my daughter skinned her knee and they were out of band-aids (lol), so we always bring some.

Bring some cash if you need to tip shuttle drivers, etc. They don't have an atm on-site.

I always stop by our local store and pack some individual apple danishes, cinnamon rolls and those bags of cereal. That way, we save a little money on breakfast, can relax longer in the room, and have extra space in our luggage for souvenirs.

They have some great deals for pizza delivery to the Hojo, and the front desk can give you the menus and explain the specials.

They do have a printer and computers you can use to print out your return trip tickets in the lobby. There can be a bit of a wait sometimes, so don't take too long to get that done.

There is a laundry room in both buildings 1 and 2.

Lifeguard at the play area goes on break occasionally, so along with close time, check their break hours so the kids don't have to wait to slide.

You can buy ART passes for the little shuttle to and from DL. We usually do, just in case we have a bunch of packages or a very tired kid. They can also set you up for local trips, etc.at the front desk.

Thanks for the info - DD is a pizza addict!

Can someone help me understand the in-room coffee situation here? I keep seeing everyone mention that the HoJo rooms have a "K-cup." Can you tell me if you can buy those at the grocery store? Are there any recommendations on brand/flavors for someone that likes stronger coffee? Do I need a special cup or a certain size to use with the coffee maker? There will be 3 of us that love coffee and don't want to make a trip to Starbucks every morning. Can you use the coffee maker to make hot water or cocoa? We know we could use the micro for that but still thought I'd ask.
