HOJO Hints & Tips

Can someone help me understand the in-room coffee situation here? I keep seeing everyone mention that the HoJo rooms have a "K-cup." Can you tell me if you can buy those at the grocery store? Are there any recommendations on brand/flavors for someone that likes stronger coffee? Do I need a special cup or a certain size to use with the coffee maker? There will be 3 of us that love coffee and don't want to make a trip to Starbucks every morning. Can you use the coffee maker to make hot water or cocoa? We know we could use the micro for that but still thought I'd ask.

Kcups are are part of the kuerig coffee system. They are really good...and you can buy them from walmart or any other major shopping chain. Also, worse case scenario you can buy them in the gift shop in the hotel. They also refill them every day in your room so you may not need more. There is a hot chocolate one as well.

Thanks, Rune. One more quick question: does anyone know what kind of TV's are in the premium rooms and/or kids suites? Specifically, do they have an HDMI connection or component/DVI?

You can find them almost everywhere. (Grocery stores, and sometimes on sale at places like JC Penny's or Sears) My favorite is the espresso blend from green mountain coffee co. it is stronger bolder flavor. I would recommend just packing some in you suit case because they are super light and it will give you more space for souvenirs on the way home if you are flying.

I know this is an old thread but I just read ALL 13 pages in anticipation of our October trip to HoJo and wanted to thank everyone who took the time to share tips (especially on room location!).

Any new tips?

Also, we're going with our 2 girls who will be 2 and 5 in October. I currently have a Premium Disney View room with 2 Queens (all the suites are booked) but wondering if I should change to a Deluxe room to get into Building 2 by the garden pool. We anticipate we'll end our nights by 7 pm and perhaps watch the fireworks from our room, but the biggest priority really is getting a quiet room. DH is a light sleeper (he doesn't even like the white noise of an AC unit going). Thus I'm worried about the Premium view rooms in Building 1 and freeway noise.

Thanks in advance!

Stick with your premium view--it is called premium for a reason!;)

LOL. Since I posted that, jory29 gave us her Sept reservations for a Kids' Suite!!! We are still getting a Premium 2 queen room for the first night (we arrive a day earlier than her reservation started) but it's just one night.

Thanks for the flavor advice. That is why I was asking; I wasn't first sure what they were and knew that me and my in-laws would need more than the room provided. We drive so packing some will be no problem!

My son says the TV was mounted to the wall and he couldn't access any connections for his various devices.

Bumping this thread up for Cinmon Toast & Tacos.

And she thanks you!

This thread is awesome, thank you all for the great tips. I'm especially happy to read about the Keurigs in the rooms -- I can't get far without my coffee. :surfweb:

Now I'd love some opinions: We will have three rooms, double standard, which we will request to have adjoining and/or connecting. 3 kids still need naps (and will need it dark and quiet), we have strollers, and whenever we are not in Disneyland I guarantee my oldest will want to be at the Pirates Cove. I would love to be able to see the fireworks from our balcony and have one big enough to sit out on. So, given all these facts....which rooms would you request?

PS...You can call me Jayne. :cutie:

Anyone stayed in this room and have suggestions?

Coming in December for our first visit to Disneyland (so excited). Really wanted to stay "on property" but could not justify the cost so opted for the King Suite. Looks wonderful and am hoping to be able to see fireworks and the parks from the balcony.

Ok...we have a run of the house room reserved from Dec. 7-14, and I was planning on going with the flow and taking what we got. However, after reading I am wondering if I should request a double double room so we aren't in building 1 or 2 facing the freeway (where all the roh rooms are located??) Is there really a lot of freeway noise in the standard rooms in buildings 1 and 2?:confused3

Also, can we use the keurig to get just hot water so that we can use it for cocoa and instant oatmeal?? I was planning on bringing these from home, but don't want to if there isn't hot water to use with them!! And I don't plan on being fortunate enough to get a microwave as a bonus.....:rolleyes1

Hi! We were in one of the kids suites a few weeks ago, which are on the highway side. Yes, there was noise but it didn't bother me one bit, I actually though it was soothing, and I don't usually like background noise at night.

Yes, you can use the Keurig for hot water - my sister made cup of noodles with it!

Thanks for the reply!! I was hoping to hear that you can just get hot water out of a keurig with no problem, as I have a 7 year old who is as bad as I am without coffee if she doesn't get her hot cocoa!!:rotfl:

I guess I will take what room we get. I am still reading and hearing mixed reviews concerning noise. It does help to know that being on the highway side didn't bother you. We are usually night owls (the ones running onto teacups as they announce the park is closing...) and hopefully by then it will not be very traveled. And as for morning, my built in alarm goes off at 7:30 unless I am dead tired anyway!!

I just wanted to throw out there that the noise was the one of only two things that bothered me at HOJOs this summer. I definitely give the hotel a :thumbsup2.

1) We were in builing 3, bottom floor, corner that is toward the freeway. There was a quiet constant hum and a weird oscillating noise all night long that really bothered me. Everyone else in my room was fine, but those of you who are sensitive like me need to know. I felt like I was in a belly of a beast.

2) We were at the end of the housekeeping route. They didn't get to our room until the late... I think it was 3 or 4 pm. We came back for a swim and were surprised about the room.

We like HOJOs for summer visits to DL because of the pool.

Re: noise, we found that keeping the AC on drowned out any freeway noise. We recently stayed in a Kids' Suite on the first floor, facing the freeway. We were on the far right side (1102), to the right of the bank of elevators. When we walked in one afternoon and the doors to the parking lot to the left of the elevators was open, we could hear the freeway ROARING. Yet it was quiet once we entered our room as the AC drowned out all noise. I found the AC was a constant noise, like white noise, as opposed to cycling on and off (which I think would be more disruptive to go from absolute silence to AC humming).

Hello! Great thread. Has anyone stayed recently who can comment on the bedding? On the HoJo site I see that in the lovely room videos that the bedding is a kind of patterned comforter, but in the PICTURES of the room, you have what looks like a white duvet with a topper at the end of the bed.

Don't ask me why bedding is so important to me...but I really hope the white duvets are standard and they have gone away from the patterned comforters.

Thanks!!

We stayed in Building #2 Room 2-207 to be exact Dec. 18th-22nd, and the bedding was the white duvet covers with a small runner at the bottom. Very comfortable beds.

This was our second stay at Hojo's and loved it again. The boys enjoyed the pool - didn't think they would even go in it in Dec. The room was soooo quiet - we never even heard a door slam in the morning. Ours had a pool facing balcony.

I think the thing I love about the Hojo the most is knowing that staying there allows me to plan another visit - i.e. the cost savings is HUGE for me, and I love the fact that it was designed by the same man who did the Disneyland Hotel so long ago. The grounds are very nice too. The bathroom could use some updating, but truly that is all I could find and it is a large bathroom, and we are the "spend every last minute at the parks" kind-of family with older kids anyway.

Have fun!

Thanks so much for the reply! Glad you had fun. Me and boyfriend (what is the abbreviation for that? DB?) are going MLK weekend and I agree, the cost savings is huge. For four nights I think it was $600 more to stay at Paradise Pier... We were originally looking at that but then they sold out of regular rooms and the price bumped up... at which point the HoJo with it's great reviews and close proximity started looking pretty good.

I can't wait! This is a last minute trip (we booked it a few days ago) and I couldn't be more excited. As a WDW addict, I can't believe I'll be in DLR in 2 weeks!!:cheer2:

Have a great time with you DBF.

Regarding Freeway Noise, since the posts in September regarding the issues, things have changed. Hojo has change doors on many rooms to increase sound proofing and there have been many hotel guests who have noted the situation is now much better and doesn't have negative impacts on their stays.
