Ok, we're leaving in 9 days and I'd love to hear:
- what was helpful to have
- what you wished you had
- what you didn't need to bring, and/or
- what made or could have made your trip

I'm getting so excited and always start to OVER pack...so any help would be appreciated :)

Oh! We will be there too! We check in on April 29th!

I'm hoping for good tips as well.

We'll be there too! Checking in very late on the 28th! Look for a bunch of baton twirlers! My students are in a parade on Main Street n Sunday May 2nd!!!

We stayed at Hojo in Fall 2008 and loved it. We had a 9 yr old and a 2 1/2 yr old in tow. We used her maclaren stroller and were glad to have that. We also brought an ice chest with milk, juices, waters, etc and put those all in the fridge. We brought snacks, cereal, fruit, etc. Food was great to have on hand. We went back to the hotel everyday around lunch to rest, eat and the kids LOVED the water park at the hotel. We got there on a Sunday and didn't go into the park that day, so the kids were at the water park all day! I'm not an overpacker so there wasn't anything we packed and didn't use that I can recall. Bring an extra bag to carry souvenirs home. Oh, and if you cross the main road at the first light then cut through the bus drop off, it's a tad quicker and there are less people then walking all the way down Harbor and going in the main entrance. Have fun!

I like to bring bigger thermal coffee cups. The souvenir mugs that you can buy coffee or cocoa in at DL are great for that. I always get a new one everytrip anyhow, but usually bring one or more from home. My kiddo is a morning cocoa drinker and those little stirofoam cups just don't work.

Also, bring baggies to store open food, and napkins.

Gel inserts for shoes:)

sunscreen, ponchos for wet rides?

diving sticks for pool

That's all I can think of right now. Have fun!

Hi ,

We're also checking into HOJO'S late 28th April. Sorry i dont have any hints or tips for you, just thought i'd say "hi" :thumbsup2:cool1:

This is our first trip to DL - we're from Australia...and we're all so excited, heard nothing but great things about HOJOS.:banana::banana:

Thanks for the tips. I was kindof looking for more HOJO tips, like the cross walk tip and don't forget to turn on your fridge :)

Do they have cups in the room? Ice bucket?

Planning on bring power strips.

Oh, can you call over to Mimi's, make and order and then go and pick it up? We'll be bringing food but I love having a little egg and bacon in the morning.

Quarters in case you need to use Hojo’s coin op washers and dryers. Hojo having those saved me when my shampoo exploded in my bag all over my DCA sweatshirt.

It is a lot shorter distance to walk on the Disneyland side of the road and cut through when you can. I don't really remember exactly where to turn but I walked by a bus stop that was on my left and it was ok to be there.

The Hojo does provide ice buckets, and there is a gift shop that has everything from drinks and snacks, to small grocery items, souvenirs and laundry detergent, and sun lotion, aloe and band-aids. You will have a fridge and safe in your room.

If you arrive early, they will store your luggage until your room is ready. Quarters for one of the two laundry areas woulds be good to have, just in case.

If you get tired, or you have young kids, you can ride the shuttle to and from the hotel for a very small daily fee. They will help you at the register.

Really, we love to stay at the Hojo because it is worry free, and just about everything is there, or easy to get ahold of.

I was glad that we brought our own bowls, cups, spoons, cereal, pb, honey. Although the little store in Building 1 carries a LOT of stuff. We bought milk and bread there. I believe the bread was $3.65 or $3.95 per loaf -- a loaf of Albertson's bread with lots of smaller-size sandwich bread. They only sold small bottles of milk. They were $1.79. Maybe enough for 2 bowls worth of cereal. (We spent a lot of $$ on milk.) The fridge we had in our room froze our milk if we put it far back on the shelf, or in the door (thought it would be fine in the door), but it didn't freeze if we had it pulled forward on the shelf. :confused3 Didn't seem to matter what the setting was at all. I read about others having the same experience. But the freezing action came in really handy with our water bottles that we took over to the park. The water stayed nice and cold for a long time.

Here's a picture of the size of milk they carry, in its frozen form. As you can see, it didn't keep my husband from having cereal...

Mimi's... there is a menu in the HOJO rooms. We ate in the restaurant, called from our room and picked the food up, as well as called from Disneyland and picked the food up on our way back to the room. The food is great, but every single time 1 or 2 or 3 things were missing from our order. So be sure and check thoroughly before heading out with your food if you do take-out so you don't have to go back several times. :rolleyes1

My kids were just saying this morning that they can't wait to go back to HOJO. They've only been once and that was 5 months ago. We had the Kids' Suite and couldn't have been happier. Enjoy your stay! :wizard:

here are some of my thoughts we have stayed at hojo about 10 times in the last year.
The rooms have keurig coffee makers and paper coffee cups with lids. We bring our own kcups (for keurig) from home because the kcups they have are just "ok" lol. They do sell other varieties in the mart, they are pricey. But I love that they have cups with lids to take out of the room:)

you can get a free paper in the mart.
You can get a discount in the mart if you have any annual pass to DL.
If you get there before checkin and your room isn't ready they will hold your bags and have in the past brought them up to our room.
You can get a pool key and change in one of their restrooms, while you wait for your room.
If you preorder groceries and are arriving after checkin they will put your perishables in the frig. And other items in your room.
I see some people bring their own pool towels but you don't need to, the pool areas have towels available and they are good size.
We love hojo

Several that I would note have already been mentioned.

larger travel cups
your own k cups
the power strip
crossing at Manchester and walking down the DL side of Harbor to just past the bus stop on Harbor.

We also always bring a nightlight. Yes, you can order to go from Mimi's. I've never done it but other's have mentioned it in their reports.

Another thing to note, just in case because it did happen to me, if you leave the building take your room key. I took stuff out to the car at about 6 am on our departure day and the automatic doors required my room key to get back in.

check to see the hours of the kid's pool area. It closed at 5:00 when we were there and my grandkids were disapointed. Also the regular pool is not where the kid's pool is, so if you have real little ones you won't be able to swim while they are at the kid's pool. There is a jacuzzi there though.

There are usually 4 cups with lids and one extra cup with no lid in the bathroom. Cups are replaced daily. There are keurig coffee makers with 4 coffees and the usual packet of sweeteners. These get replenished daily also, but we have noticed this seems to occur at a separate time from when the room gets cleaned.

The room has an ice bucket, and at least in building 2 there is an ice machine and soda vending machine on each floor.

All the rooms have safes and refrigerators. I know Building 2 rooms and premium rooms in Building 1 have microwaves, but I don't know if any of the other rooms do.

The store is good if you want only an occasional item or you have forgotten something, and they do offer a 10% discount to Disneyland AP holders. I try to remember to bring our own Tylenol or ibuprofen (for those end-of-the day muscle aches), some cold medicine (just in case), water, lots of snacks and plastic zipper bags to put them in for carrying around during the day, and an ice chest with small milks, cheese, and fruits and veggies for the fridge because I would rather be spending my money on food and stuff in the parks than convenience items in the hotel store.

My husband plays around with the temperature dial on those little fridges every time and was really pleased with himself last time when none of our milks or carrots froze.

Mimi's is great for carryout. You can call over, but if you don't think ahead you can just walk up to the take-out counter at the bar and order right there. I've never had to wait too long even when not planning ahead.

As for the walk over to the park, you save time by walking on the Disneyland side of the street. Cross at the crosswalk from HOJOs to Mimi's then cross Harbor immediately at the crosswalk at Mimi's. The park side walk somehow always feels more pleasant to me. At certain times of the day it is shaded, and it is always less crowded than the hotel side across the street. You save steps at the end of the walk by cutting in through the opening to your right just pass the bus stops (rather than waiting until you reach the light and the entrance cross walk that everybody still on the other side of the street will be using) and cross through what used to be the taxi area but what now seems to just be a throughway for all the trams and buses.

The room has wired internet which works fine, but if being wireless is important to you, bring your own wireless router.

Can't think of any other suggestions right now. Anything else you wanted to know?

How big are the fridges? I am wondering how much we will be able to put in there.... will a half gallon of milk fit?

Oh. That's a good one. Last time we were there, DH took the boys down to the water play area, but apparently it was break time when they went. All the water was turned off. Not knowing when the lifeguard had gone on break, they just waited, but it was almost a half hour before anyone came and the water got turned back on. DH said lots of people were just loitering around waiting like they were. It would be nice if the break sign posted a return time so people would know what to expect. I don't remember the time exactly, but I think it was sometime between 2:30 and 3:30 in the afternoon, prime resting and swimming time for our family. It used to be that the water would stay on, and they would just close off the slides while the lifeguard wasn't present, so this was an unwelcome surprise to our DSs. We never bothered to ask any of the staff if break time is the same time everyday or why the water fountains weren't at least on, but we resolved that on our next stay we'll call the front desk and check if it's break time before getting the boys all excited and trooping over from Building 2.

Yes! We fit a lot of water bottles, milk and Uncrustables with no problem.

We've never tried a half gallon. I usually just bring smaller bottles because I also like to bring a number of other items that require refrigeration. I guess you might be able to take out the shelf and fit the half gallon, but I'm not sure how much else you will be able to fit.
