HOJO Hints & Tips

There is another pool - deeper, etc. It's a couple of buildings away - not in the kids area.

ETA - there is a picture on the previous page

Thank you for this thread! I'm staying there for the first time next week. Without it, I wouldn't have known to notify them ahead of time I'm traveling with an ECV. I had no idea they had buildings without elevators so I've requested a ground floor (it's a PITA to try to get the parks in the morning from a higher floor since my only option is the elevator...).

Hi All,

I just thought I would post this link from the HoJo's website that has been super useful for me! It's a pdf map of the property and has really helped me figure out which building I would like to be in.

BTW, we are staying in a King Suite and I've requested Bldg. 2, pool side on the top floor- all thanks to this map!:thumbsup2

I've learned that bldg 1 has King and Queen rooms and all the Kid's Suites are in this bldg too.

Bldg 1 & 2 are the ONLY ones with elevators and bldg 1 has the premuim view rooms, right?

The highway is on the other side of bldg 1 & 2, which is why I'v requested to face poolside.

Does anyone else have anything to add or correct regarding the specific rooms in each building??

Ah not so good with the closet space - we will be there for 14 nights and we do struggle at the best of times with all the clothes we take. Do they have enough hangers - can you request extra or shall I pack some?

In all of the times we have stayed there over the years, any room we have had has had a good size closet. As big as any closet I have seen at any other hotel. Any time we have had a room in the Pavillion buildings (3,4,5,6), there has been a walk-in type closet where they keep roll-away beds (as a PP mentioned), as well. I have never felt like we needed more space for clothes.

To the poster who said she wouldn't be able to use her Canadian credit card, I wouldn't worry. My sister from Winnipeg comes here to San Diego every year and has used her credit card at Vons many many times.

Does anyone know if the standard King rooms have microwaves?

I've requested standard King in building 2, and can't find any confirmation that they have both the fridge and micro. I know the fridge for sure, but what about the microwave??

Here is a link to the Hojo Message Board. It can answer all your questions about room locations, what rooms have microwaves, the sizes of fridges, pool hours, amenities, transport, canadian grocery ordering concerns, etc. It even has little video tours to show you the different rooms.

It's really been a lifesaver, both in our last trip, and our upcoming one.

No microwave in the standard rooms which includes the King rooms as well as the 2 doubles, and certain 2 queen rooms (highway side of bldg 1, I believe).

thank you! I had a sinking feeling that this was the case....

Their gift shop has large bottles, I'm pretty sure 1/2 gallon size, for a reasonable price. Don't remember exactly how much, but I bought several so I know they were not that much! ( I'm cheap :lmao: ) and the regular size bottles of water are only $1 from the pop machines! at least last time I got them they were.... brought a whole case in the car with us so didn't actually buy any of them this time...maybe someone else can confirm or deny this?

My impression was that the water was a little pricy, I seem to remember the gift shop had a 1.5 liter bottle of water about $3.75. I didnt think of checking the pop machines, so maybe i missed a cheaper alternative.

We stayed at HoJos a month ago. We stayed in a 2 queen premium room by the pool. I think it was building 2. Our closet was big enough to store all our luggage on the floor. We also hung up all of our sweatshirts in it.
I stopped at a Costco on the way there and picked up bottled water, muffins, cuties and a bag of pears. Our room had a microwave which was great. On our first full day there, we ordered a pizza, salad and breadsticks from round table. We were able to eat leftovers for lunch the next day. I also brought instant oatmeal, bowls, cups, paper plates and plastic silverware. We ate breakfast in the room everyday except for one day we had mimis. That saved a lot of money and time. We walked the whole time on the Disneyland side. I have a 5 yr old and 8 yr old and we never used the shuttle. Our favorite place we ate was Carnation Cafe. We loved the loaded potato soup and the prices were very reasonable for Disneyland. We got to meet Chef Oscar. We turned on the fan on the aircondioner to block out noises at night. I found it wasn't noisy at all.
I am a light sleeper and slept well. My kids LOVED the water park!

I know they were bigger than that....but really don't remember the price...:confused3 and bottles out of the machines are still a dollar, which makes them expensive when you think of it in comparison to a large bottle, but about a third of the price of what they charge in Disneyland for them! I'll try to remember come July to make an actual note of it....

I love this thread so much. We are heading down in March 2011 for the first time and can't wait. From what I'm getting from this thread is that building 3 & 4 facing the kids pool is good. Building 8 facing the pool is good. Both building 1 and 2 you hear the noise from the freeway?? Have I got this right?? What about building 6? Is it close to the freeway too?? By the map it would be.. Keep the information coming:goodvibes

I think it depends what side of building 1 and 2 you are on, if you are on the pool side (Deluxe rooms) then you wouldn't hear the freeway, but if you got a standard room (like through DisneyTravel) then you would be on the freeway side and it might be loud.

Building 2 is our favorite. We have had very quiet rooms when we have stayed there. Building 1 we heard some freeway noise but once the a/c was on, we were fine. I have stayed in Buildings 4 and 6 before and have heard some freeway noise because we were the last room closest to the parking lot. Again, once the a/c was on, we couldn't hear anything.

There is no building 8, by the way. Only up to 6. :goodvibes Building 2 is the one that would face the pool.

I'll be there in a couple of weeks and will find out the price and let you all know. :) I was interested in buying bottled water close to or at HoJo's since we are flying and won't have a rental car.

Love this thread! It has been SO helpful for me!!

Even though I booked through Disney Travel, do you think I'd be able to call HoJo's and request an upgrade & then just pay the difference to HoJo's? Has anyone ever done this before?

I just got back from a stay on April 17-21. Stayed in a deluxe queen room that had fridge, microwave, keurig coffee maker, four keurig coffee thingys & four paper cups w/lids in room. There are packets with sugar/creamer/stir stick. There is an in-room safe, ironing board & iron and hair dryer. Ice bucket in room and and ice down the hall. We were in Building 2 on pool side. Could hear freeway in hallway but not in room. Could see fireworks from balcony. I thought that Hojo mini market was overpriced, but not outrageous. If you travel a few blocks south on Harbor you will come to a super Target that has better prices on milk, breakfast items and water. Your coffee will taste much better if you use bottle water over tap. I think I paid about the same price for a half gallon of milk at Target as I paid for about 10 ounces at the Hojo minimarket. Cereal cups were at least .25 cheaper at Target. So if you have a car, I would stop by the Target and stock up. It sells a lot of food items to travelling families. Pool has towels. You can print out a boarding pass in the lobby but may have to wait to get to one of two computers terminals as there is no time limit as to how long a person can be on and I had to wait through a string of teens checking Facebook, etc.

Due to an unforseen event it ended up being only my daughter and I in the room. The sinks are inside the bathroom as opposed to being outide on a vanity. If my husband had been there, this would have slowed us down in the mornings.
