Hojo Experts...

So I know that the $74 vs. $59 rooms are the Disney View, but how else do they differ - I know location - but what about room size and highway noise? :confused3

Thank you so much for that link! Even with the promo code, I was unable to get the magical rate to appear, LOL
Now I can quick-plan a couple days before calling to reserve so I'm not flustered and stammering :)
I hope its not so unbearably hot as WDW in late September! We are Atlantic Canadians so not so good with 125% humidity! :rotfl2:

Rooms have been on the large side.

We have been in building 2, with garden pool views each time, and other than when people are swimming (especially right now with the main pool under massive construction so everyone is in the garden pool), it's been very very quiet. No highway noise for us at all.

No it won't be hot like WDW. :) Even though it's near the water, it's not a humid heat at all, in my experience. It's more like desert heat, which means once the sun goes down, put on your sweatshirts!

The $74 Premium Disney View rooms are all in Bldg. 1. They all have microwaves and most have a vanity/sink area outside the bathroom. If you are on the Northeastern end of the bldg. and above the freeway wall, you may experience some freeway noise.

The $59 deluxe and standard rooms are in Bldgs. 2-6. Deluxe rooms have 2 queens and are in bldg. 2. No micro, but there is a mini fridge. I have never heard freeway noise in all my bldg. 2 stays. Standard rooms are in the pavillion bldgs. 3-6., they have 2 oversized doubles, no micro. Never personally stayed in one of these, but I hear they are quiet and feel very spacious.

HTH.

We're staying at the Howard Johnsons Anaheim in September too! From the 4th through the 9th.

It was difficult to make my mind up. I haven't been to DL since 1981 and the last time I stayed in a hotel it was the "Inn of Tomorrow."

In the course of making up my mind, I heard many good things about the HoJo.

I also came across these two videos on YouTube that cinched the deal. We're staying at the HoJo!

:rotfl2: I can't believe I've never seen those video clips before. I'm pretty sure I've met Barbara in her "other" life. ;)

So, you pay the same price for a deluxe or standard room? :confused3

If you're referring to the Entertainment Book rate, I believe there are 2 different rates, one for a premium room and one for a standard room. The premium rate room is higher.

The premium room rate - bldg 1 - for me was $74/night - new beds, micro, Disney view, etc. The deluxe room rate would have been $59/night - bldg 2. The new pool should be open by then too - yay! Entertainment for the kiddos.

Ha - LOVED the videos!!

We really like building 2 in the back. The rooms face away from the highway and are roomy.

Once we were assigned building one in a king room facing the highway. It was SO noisy (Balcony door to the highway) - and pretty small. We had arrived at 1am so we crashed there for the night. First thing in the morning we requested a move to building 2. They gave us a new room assignment without in trouble.

We do like the hotel.

I managed to get the $74 ent rate for the night of the 4th of September. It was not available for our other night through the 8th.

I forgot to ask - do the NQQ1 rooms have in-room safes? Are they big enough for a laptop???

I believe at this time only the premium rooms have in-room safes. Otherwise, you are welcome to use the safe at the front desk.

I have always just stashed my laptop in a drawer or in my suitcase, and never had an issue.

Only the premium rooms have safes (and are the only ones with microwaves too), but yes they are big enough for a laptop. The safe was actually really good sized. We put our laptop, and a bag with our ipods and stuff all inside. I really liked the safe.

Building one tends to be a bit noisey though. I've heard the other buildings are much more quieter.

You guys are saying only the premium rooms have safes, but we had what appears to be a 'deluxe' room (according to their PDF of room types) in building 2, and it had a safe. But no microwave. (and not newly replaced mattresses and barely a window (no balcony)).

That's surprising. I knew they were planning on installing the safes in the deluxe rooms after they finished with the premiums, but didn't think they had done it yet. And I'm definitely surprised they installed a safe in a NQQ2 before putting one of their new comfy beds in there.

Since Eamon was messing with the keypad and locked it OPEN for our whole stay (we could never be there when they sent someone so they never came in to fix it), we surely did wish we had the new Heavenly-style beds rather than a safe as well!!!!!

But, and I know this is ridiculous in reality, at HoJo I feel really safe, and although I normally put everything away so taking things would be an effort, at HJ I don't feel the need to do that. Very likely a stupid feeling to have, but that's how I feel. (and that has to do with the safe b/c I never felt the urgent need to hide my laptop in there)

Great - we are getting the premium building 1 rooms with the new beds AND the safes, phew!! I always bring my work laptop when I travel, so it's important for me to have the safe to keep it safe :thumbsup2 That's the one good thing about working for yourself, at home - you can work anywhere there is high speed Internet!! And for someone like me, who does not sleep a lot, it keeps me occupied while everyone else is snoring.... Works for everyone!
