you all gave me such great ideas for my DD(almost 9)'s Harry Potter party in a couple of weeks, I thought I'd ask for some for her twin bother's Hobbit party. Again, just having a handful of kids for a sleepover. (back to back sleepovers, what was I thinking????

I think any food that is served should be separated into "meals". The six from the books are;

1st Breakfast
2nd Breakfast
Elevenses
Luncheon
Tea
Dinner
Supper

Bells to dance the Springlering. (Nobody really knows what it looks like, so let 'em make it up. Provide a sturdy table to dance on if you can do it safely.

Bubble pipes. Hobbits love their pipes.

Remember that hobbits love presents, and that they have the concept of mathoms. A mathom is sort of a perennial present -- something that passes around from hand to hand every time there's an excuse to give it away because it's useless/obnoxious/awkward.

Hobbits love fireworks. Since they're illegal almost everywhere these days, this may be an imagination-stretcher.

Hobbits are natural crack shots with thrown things and slingshots. Nerf balls?

Ok you asked for it. LOL :lmao: Here are a bunch of links with some great ideas.

Some great ideas, with a wonderful selection of what foods would be appropriate, based on passages from the book.

Mushrooms (these are favorite hobbit food and Farmer Maggot used to grow them and Frodo got caught trying to steal some)
Wine (Bilbo and Frodo both inherited vineyards); beer is also popular with hobbits (Obviously not for kids, but maybe sparkling cider or root beer served in plastic "ale" mugs?)
Hot soup
Cold meats, mince pies, pork pies, rabbit, fish and chips, rashers of bacon. This recipe looks fantastic, and would satisfy Hobbits' desire for meat pies AND mushrooms. :goodvibes Here is a method for making a substitute for demi-glace if you don't have all day to "whip" one up. :sad2:
Blackberry tarts and other blackberry foods (including uncooked blackberries)
Freshly baked bread and lots of butter
Pickles are often mentioned
Ripe cheese
Food made from vegetables such as corn, turnips, carrots, potatoes and onions
Food made with apples, such as apple tart (with raspberry jam)
Honey (foods made with honey such as honey cakes would be nice)
Scones (known as "biscuits" in North America), fruit pies, and cakes of any kind, including seed cakes
Pinwheel sandwiches (just because these are small and cute and the hobbits may have approved provided they weren't too fussy)
Tea and coffee.
Keep seasonings and sauces to a minimum; apparently hobbits didn't bother with them that much.

Where to purchase Hobbit party favors online - HUGE resource.

Must figure out some way for guests to have hairy feet!!

Oh, and every good party needs a theme song. :charac2:

Have fun!! :wizard:
