Hoarding ADR

Quick vent...I know people don’t always know what all their exact plans are but it seems lately, I have noticed more and more people hoarding multiple reservations for the exact same restaurant...even as far as on the same day but multiple times (lunch and dinner). I know this has been done before but it seems completely out of control right now! I’m seeing this on the Facebook groups. They then hold it over you to only release it for something in return...someone had exactly what I needed and they said they weren’t planning on keeping it. They flat out told me they were not going to release it to me unless I had what they wanted. It’s like ADR hostage! Just frustrating when the adr are so hard to come by as it is and then to have people absolutely abusing the system just makes it that much harder! Ok...done venting! Just had to get that off my chest, lol!

They allow reservations too close in time. Much of this would be fixed if you could only make one reservation per 3 or 4 hours.

I would think the people attempting to trade reservations would sometimes get screwed. Right? I mean between all the reservation alert systems, people regularly using the system, and just general glitches, I would think the reservations get snapped up or don’t go back up immediately before the two people can trade. Wouldn’t that be the best Karma!

Can you release an ADR to a specific person or do you mean a coordinated time when they drop and you can hopefully pick up before anyone else notices? Either way, how frustrating that people are doing that. We were joking on our last trip that some of the ADRs were like gold but this is taking that a little too literally!

I guess you could technically give them your info for a reservation, then you’d run the risk of being charged if they no-show. I would never do that and I don’t think there is a way to transfer a reservation to another MDE account. I’m guessing they are trying to organize dropping reservations at the same time which seems risky.

I have a 6pm B&C to trade for a 11-3pm Sci-Fi on Sat June 19 🤪

Too much work... no thanks. I’ll get what we can find and be perfectly fine. Can’t imagine how tedious it is needing to have a trip planned so exact and precisely.

That's awful! I would never have thought to do that. I like the idea of only one ADR every 4 hours. Then again, with everyone being able to make ADR's at 60 days prior I guess the same person could make as many reservations as they want by using different names. I also think they should let WDW resort guests book at 60 days and non resort guests at 30 or 40. Resort guests used to have an advantage, pre covid. Oh well, there's always someone out there ruining it for others. Like someone else said, KARMA!

Lol! I think I have actually seen that! Maybe someone looking for Topolinos that has 2 other lesser restaurants that they are willing to give up! Stuff like that! I needed Sanaa and I did find someone who was honest that simply decided they didn’t want it anymore and just gave it to me! We arranged a time to be online at the same time and when she dropped it, I kept refreshing and about a minute later it showed up and I was able to quickly get it! That was our most important one to get this trip since our oldest wants us to do some “senior” pictures at animal kingdom lodge. So it worked out for us...but these people on there are getting crazy! I heard it wasn’t even this bad at spring break!

And what about the services that guests register and receive an alert that their specific time and date and choice of restaurant is available... adding to the problem

Another crazy 60 day strategy that creates compettion
I have room reservation and daughter has separate resort reservation... we are both grabbing duplicate adr’s at the same time for same travel dates , just in case, we wait to figure out what should we keep and what should we cancel...

Those don't hold the reservation though. They just notify people that a reservation was found. And then the people have to go in and try like the rest of us to grab it.

Resort guests can still book 60+10...so a lot are getting gobbled up that way naturally. But I have heard of one person I know that booked a resort for their upcoming trip just to get dining reservations and then cancelled the resort (or switched dates). That is a bit much for me!!

So not sure how that would work as it’s not like you can transfer to someone not in your party. Unless the give you a confirmation number but if the seating host asks to see it you could be up the creek. You could get their info and then report them to Disney. That trading or whatever scam is just wrong as you release it and it’s gone.

I hope nobody would be willing to hold the confirmation number for an unknown party. If they don’t show up it’s the person who made that reservation left holding the bag ($10 per person no show fee)

This is nothing new and IMO Disney is partially to blame. It’s better now that ADRs are 60 days out, but when they were 180 days it was nearly impossible to know your plans that far in advance. Even now they make it difficult because they don’t release the “real” park hours before ADRs have to be made. I think the effects of it are just worse right now because ADRs are so limited, but it’s definitely always been a problem.

yes, I love when people post a whole list of their coveted ADRs and then ask "which ones do you think I should keep?" Seriously? How about just making them for ones that you at least plan to use. I realize plans change sometimes but these people get off on the "hunt" for them even though they really have no intention of using them all. Yuck!
