Hoarding ADR

Maybe if Disney just allowed one reservation per meal period for everyone in your group. If they are able to only allow one park reservation per person then they should be able to set it up for one restaurant.

The issue with this is if your group wants to split up and go to different places or if you have a large group and you need to make concurrent reservations. Sounds easy to say “only one reservation per group”, but it does mess with other situations and you can’t really split your group up due to things like resort reservations, FPs, RotR etc.

I am still wondering what someone with a coveted ADR would ask for in exchange for it. Another coveted ADR? 10 Mickey bars? Naming rights for the next child?
Lol! Imagine a bunch of kids named “Disneygrl152” and “HamSolo” and stuff like that!

But seriously, this is so selfish. I’ve never made more than one ADR per day because I know I don’t want to spend that much time on meals. Why reserve things I know I won’t use?

Quick vent...I know people don’t always know what all their exact plans are but it seems lately, I have noticed more and more people hoarding multiple reservations for the exact same restaurant...even as far as on the same day but multiple times (lunch and dinner). I know this has been done before but it seems completely out of control right now! I’m seeing this on the Facebook groups. They then hold it over you to only release it for something in return...someone had exactly what I needed and they said they weren’t planning on keeping it. They flat out told me they were not going to release it to me unless I had what they wanted. It’s like ADR hostage! Just frustrating when the adr are so hard to come by as it is and then to have people absolutely abusing the system just makes it that much harder! Ok...done venting! Just had to get that off my chest, lol!

No way could I deal with anyone doing this, even if I had what they wanted. On the one hand I can only imagine that they might hold off releasing their ADR while waiting for me to release mine first - but that assumes they actually have the ADR to release. Imagine if they didn't actually have any ADR but were trying to scam someone into releasing an ADR for someplace that they wanted. There's no amount of trust I can muster for any dealings like this.

When we last went to Disney, one person in our group managed all of the reservations for our entire group which made things much easier to coordinate. When our large group wanted to split up to eat at different places, we just had someone else make that reservation. Disney doesn't let one person have multiple reservations for different restaurants at the same date/time which makes sense. While I have no proof of what others may be doing, I would be fine in having Disney limit the number of reservations (or frequency) any one person can make per day if that practice is currently being misused.

I realize that when booking you will be charged if you do not cancel in a timely manner but maybe put into place a system when making a reservation that would require an actual deposit at the time of booking for each person in the party. If people had to fork over money on their CC then they might think twice about hoarding and booking reservations that they have no intention of using. This won’t be popular but the current system does not work.

This is what they have to do. They fact that a secondary market like touring plans has popped up is indicative of a real problem.

Maybe allow a breakfast, lunch and dinner reservation each day (or 3 total, who cares) - and for reservations over and above that you have to pay $10 per person. You will have many fewer “players” with 7 separate Oga’s reservations.

The problem is everything requires a reservation now. Oga's doesn't give you a meal but you need a reservation. If you want to just get drinks somewhere it seems like you need a reservation (haven't tried yet to confirm this). If you just want ice cream at Beaches and Cream you need a reservation. There should really be a separate system for people who want a full meal vs people who just want one thing and will only be there a shorter span of time.

I was going to write a caveat for Oga’s! Agreed. As a non ice cream enthusiast I am befuddled by the Beaches and Cream love. I stayed at the yacht club last month and 10:30 pm dinner reservations kept popping up and I was like - who is getting ice cream now (ducks in shame)

As an absolute ice cream enthusiast, I am also befuddled by the B&C love.

OMG! Where have I been? I am not a newbie by any stretch, but I have never heard of this or would even think to do this. I just came over to the restaurant threads to see if there's any hints on Yachtsman Steak House opening.

I have made so many mistakes over the years by canceling reservations I thought I didn't want only to want them a few days later..lol, but I didn't want to hold reservations someone else might wanted. I am even quick to cancel part reservations as my plans change. I am actually sitting here shocked, what is happening????:sad2:

I grew up in a place that has tons of diners so I have wondered if devotees just loved that type of experience.

I have no room to judge as every time I walked past crew’s cup I had a woeful sigh of sadness

So where is the WDW ADR Rent/Trade Board? :)

As for being able to "fake" drop an ADR as part of a hypothetical trade you could always insist on doing it over a Zoom/MeetingPlatformOfYourChoice and ask to screen share so you can see them do it. Probably the best way to confirm something and so easy to do with online meeting platform so prevalent in our lives now.

This is nothing new and IMO Disney is partially to blame. It’s better now that ADRs are 60 days out, but when they were 180 days it was nearly impossible to know your plans that far in advance. Even now they make it difficult because they don’t release the “real” park hours before ADRs have to be made. I think the effects of it are just worse right now because ADRs are so limited, but it’s definitely always been a problem.

I remember several years ago during the height of ADR hording before MDE ... there was a group on social media that was grabbing up all the popular reservations and 'gifting' them like it was a make-a-wish or surprise pixie-dust to whomever they deemed fit.

As you said, this is nothing new, but really made much worse due to the availability.

So basically you are saying they were acting like government politicians and bureaucracies! LOL
