Hoarding ADR

yes, I love when people post a whole list of their coveted ADRs and then ask "which ones do you think I should keep?" Seriously? How about just making them for ones that you at least plan to use. I realize plans change sometimes but these people get off on the "hunt" for them even though they really have no intention of using them all. Yuck!
When they start actually charging your credit card (a bit line (edit:like) Cinderella’s Royal Table) some amount for reservations we will know why.

Especially now, when you have to make park reservations - and do those in advance so as not to get shut out, I have a hard time buying the "But we don't know what we will want to do that day" argument. Unless you are one who was hoarding Studios park reservations for that ride and are hoping that the days you don't get a group you can change parks, you know which park you're going to.

I do wish Disney would close the loophole where people are changing the ADR the day of to avoid the fee. It should be no cancellations or changes within 24 hours. And once you hit that mark, all you can do with it on the app is check in.

I wish they wouldnt take adr inside the parks it is so hard to know when you will be hungry to make a reservation while on vacation. we try to make it for the time we normally eat at home but when we’re on vacation we tend to get snacks here and there and then when it is time to eat we’re not hungry end up eating because we have the reservation! Just doesn’t make sense to take adr inside the parks I understand they need to know how many servers and what not to have on but inside the park they really should have the coverage at all times because most of the places are booked out anyways. just a thought

Quick vent...I know people don’t always know what all their exact plans are but it seems lately, I have noticed more and more people hoarding multiple reservations for the exact same restaurant...even as far as on the same day but multiple times (lunch and dinner). I know this has been done before but it seems completely out of control right now! I’m seeing this on the Facebook groups. They then hold it over you to only release it for something in return...someone had exactly what I needed and they said they weren’t planning on keeping it. They flat out told me they were not going to release it to me unless I had what they wanted. It’s like ADR hostage! Just frustrating when the adr are so hard to come by as it is and then to have people absolutely abusing the system just makes it that much harder! Ok...done venting! Just had to get that off my chest, lol!

My last couple of trips, I was not able to change ADRs the night before on the app only. To make the modification, I had to log into the website from my phone. I was well before the midnight cutoff time. This happened to me more than once, so not sure if it's just certain restaurants or what. Or maybe glitchy.

I don't approve of ADR hoarding either, but the worst part is the people who think they are doing some sort of public service--i.e., "I'll book Oga's every day of the week to keep our plans flexible, and then "pixie dust" it by releasing it all a day before our trip once I make up my mind when to go". It's not pixie dust to force others who woke up at 5am on their reservation day and struck out to check their app constantly and scramble in response to touring plans finders for two months, including while they are on vacation.

I do think some of the blame lies on disney though, especially when it comes to park hours. The way Disney keeps tinkering with park hours makes it sometimes hard to plan breakfast and dinner ADRs, e.g., when a 5pm close at AK suddenly becomes a 7pm one, or a 10am open at HS becomes an 8am one long just a couple of weeks before the trip.

Similarly, the park pass situation has been silly. I wish disney would truly make it first come first serve for everyone, instead of holding back way more inventory than needed for APs and spontaneously releasing batches to resort/ticket guests at random times.

Fun to rant sometimes :)

Don't hate the player...hate the game.

I try not to get too stressed about the WDW ADR games, but I do understand because I've been in the thick of a heated hunt for a Chef Mickey, PPO BOG, and a lunch SCi-Fi for the perfect time. I did once get pixie dusted a coordinated PPO BOG drop from a stranger on the TP forum - that was awesome.

The hoarding might not be all malicious. WDW allows it - not saying that makes it good, or right, but there might be all kinds of ppl that just book a ton because they don't know what their plans will be, and if Wally allows them to book a bunch, then, it just makes sense to do so. Some might not have the ability to understand that other ppl might want a reservation they are holding, since you know, there are no other people in the world besides them.

Eh, I've been around the boards long enough to know sometimes it's just because people feel like they won by scoring a bunch of ADRs, especially the more popular ones, and then those same people have a hard time parting with them even once they know what their plans are. Or, apparently, they use them for trade bait which is just hilarious to me. Maybe just have some chill and be realistic about your plans.

I've noticed that I was able to make ADRs within an hour of each other lately. In the past it would ask you to cancel one before securing the other. Is that normal? It doesn't seem right.

Well, technically it says 24 hours, not midnight.

Was it always that way? I seem to remember midnight.

Although looking at WDW page, I guess it could vary from restaurant to restaurant.

It's not a system change, it is just a common glitch I've noticed in the software they use for weeding out conflicts. For example, sometimes I will make a reservation and it gives me the warning it will replace an existing one around the same time, but then both reservations stay active and I have to manually cancel the old one.

Disney IT at its best...

It has always been stated as 24 hours, but in practice has been midnight.

I’ve been able to do midnight before as well. IIRC I thought the cancellation policy said something like “the day before” as opposed to “24 hours”, which why is made sense if it allowed you to cancel up until midnight. I don’t cancel reservations often though, so I could be wrong.

This is an aggravating situation.
You should only be able to make one reservation per meal period, everyone listed on the reservation should not be able to make another reservation during that meal period either.

What I don't get is people who make sit down reservations for 3 meals a day, way too much food. I would explode.

People say all sorts of things on FB or other social media, part of the reason I rarely use it. A lot of it is likely an exaggeration or just nonsense. Or someone not to be outdone by a prior poster so they claim any number of things. Not aware of anyway to "transfer" an ADR from one person to someone else, so a lot of that sounds like nonsense. Once you cancel an ADR, ANYONE looking online could pickup an opening that becomes available.

I'm guessing when they refer to a "transfer," it really just means a coordinated drop / add. It takes all of 20 seconds.
