My family (besides my DH) does not like seafood...are we crazy for considering Coral Reef this December? I've looked at the menu and I know they have steak dinners and that chocolate wave dessert looks delicious. But do you really CR would be a poor choice for a family that doesn't like seafood? What have your experiences been there? Any reviews, opinions, or pictures would be helpful! Thanks!

Well, you'll be smelling a lot of seafood, as almost everyone in the restaurant will be ordering it, so if that bothers you, I certainly wouldn't eat there! If you are just eating there for the view, it is the same fish tank that you see from in The Seas pavilion. If you really want the other items on the menu, and don't mind the scent of fish from other tables, then by all means, go for it!

We went there in September and found that people that don't eat swimmers can do just fine at coral reef.

My DW and I had the NY strip steak (it was very good, but not quite as good as the one from Le Cellier). For appetizers, she had the salad, and I had a odd-looking but tasty barbeque beef thing. (don't recall the name)

DS had the mac and cheese, and enjoyed it.

As far as the choclate wave goes... I've had no dessert better than this. :cloud9:

The fish tank and divers was interesting to watch, and we were surprised at the end with Scuba Mickey in the tank!

The only down side we saw to Coral Reef was not about being heavy on fish for a non-fish family. It was very, very loud. It may be the tiered design of the restaurant, but we did not expect it to be as noisy as it was.

Overall, it was quite a positive experience. :thumbsup2

You won't have as much choice as some resturants, but I think you'll be fine :)

We went to both Le Cellier and Coral Reef on the free DDP back in August and actually liked the steak much better at Coral Reef. Although we had to send them back (we ordered well and they were very red), they were absolutely delicious and still juicy when the server got them back out.

I don't think you're crazy by any means!

My husband is also the only one that likes seafood. I had chicken, two of my boys and mac and cheese, and I think the third has spagetti and meatballs.

It does smell very "fishy" but, the view of the aquarium is very cool, and we got the best waiter we had in all of Disney World. I would be glad to go back again, even though I don't eat fish. Everyone in my family enjoyed it.

Well, I think it would be a poor choice because our experience there was lousy. The atmosphere was like chucky cheese with high prices and the food was just not that good. Try somewhere else! :)

We had a bad visit, too, though I don't think that is the norm. 2 members of our family didn't care for seafood so their choice was chicken or steak. They got the steak and it was not good. Course, one should not order a steak at a seafood spot! ;) It was their least fave meal, the food wasn't good - service was bad - and it was very loud! I thought my dish was very good so I could overlook the bad service and loud environment.

There are 2-3 dishes on the menu that you can choose from so if your family is happy with those, then I'd go for it.

We are not big seafood people either, but we enjoyed the food at Coral Reef. Our steaks were cooked well and tasted good. And the sweetpea liked her pizza. If you want to enjoy the atmosphere there and dont mind it being noisy, then go for it.

We just ate there last week and, other than appetizers, we all had prime rib or steak and really enjoyed it. I didn't find it terribly noisy...my 2 year old slept on me for the entire meal. Our service was excellent. 4 of us split 3 entrees and were much more comfortable than when we all ordered our own entree, appetizer and dessert. We will definitely do this one again if we're on the dining plan.
