I was at a work tonight and during my break I noticed the car parked on the side on me was way too close to mine(less than 6 inches). I couldn't see how a driver could possibly get out without damaging my car less than 1 month old car. Then a spot them: scratches. :guilty: Okay I call mall secruity, they have the driver on camera leaving her car on via the driver's side door. Ok awesome, they announce the plate throughout the mall asking them to return to the car. No one shows, in the meantime the officer is taking pictures from every angle possible. He tells me to go ahead and move my car, and there it is the mother of all scratches. It's about 10 inches long and is deep into the paint and nicely matches up with the beat up silver metal border thing of the other car. Great!

I am sitting waiting for the report to be done and the owner comes out. I introduce myself and I kindly and calmy let her know that I believe she may have accidently scratched my car. I offer to show her the report and scratches as well as the video. She is nasty and said I didn't even exit by passengers door. To which I replied, I know it was the drivers side which has damaged my car. She gets nasty with me and demands to see the video. OK no problem (already offered) :confused3 . I called back mall security and they gave the okay to show her the video but they needed about 15 minutes. I tell this owner this and she says Fine!. About 6 minutes later the owner speeds off.

So at this point, it's a hit and run. I tell the officer I knew the girl's name and that I breifly talked with her.

I really wanted to be able to just ask her to help me buff the scratches out. Then if its not possible to get the big one for her insurance to pay for that one.

Will my premium go up if I have buff the smaller one out myself and then have my insurance pay for the big one?

Is there anything else I should do?

Did they get photos of her liscense plate? You can still track her down. Not sure how all of the insurance stuff works.

Yes the officer took photos of the plate and copied down the vin. I have to go back tomorrow to get the full report.

I'm just so sad, like I don't want this girls money, just some help to fix it up.

:thumbsup2 Good for you for taking action. I am tired of people who damage other peoples vehicles and think it is okay it is just a car.

I would call my insurance agent and ask him/her, that is what they are for.

You should be good to go. If the police and security folks have all this documented, and you choose to press charges (I would), then your insurer should be able to get this taken care of with little or no hassle.

I really, really detest people who have no respect for others' property. Sure it's just a scratch, but that woman's attitude needs a reality check.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, after I get the full report tomorrow(it was changed once she left the scene to a hit and run) I need to call my insurance. I almost feel bad for the girl because she is going to be in so much more trouble for leaving the scene of an accident. But she is a creep so I guess she has it coming to her. Had she stayed her insurance would pay a couple hundred dollars for the big scratch and her premium would probably go up a little, now I bet it will be sky high. Then again maybe she doesnt have any insurance. People are so silly.

don't feel bad, she felt the need to leave. Call your insurance company! at least you got the video :) my DH was hit in the parking lot HEAD ON while he was inside a petsmart getting Crickets. His car was MOVED out of the spot that's how hard this prson hit him..well needless to say the car was gone and the lot had no video :( Insurance covers it of course, but still...

Call your insurance company. You have everything on video. Good thinking to have called mall security.

:thumbsup2

Once you give the information to your insurance company they will persue it and nothing will happen to you. Your premium will not go up. Have it all professionally taken care of ... that's what insurance is for.

Do not feel bad for her. She committed a crime by leaving the scene and a hit and run. Your insurance company will handle the problem. Talk to them. They will go to the girl's insurance company to get them to pay. If not then hopefully the girl gets a courtdate and they can request restitution from her.
She probably had a warrant or suspended license. Hopefully she will get what is coming to her. Do not let her get away with it. If she did it once she will do it again.

Call the police. They will track her down. Have her insurance fix the scrath, not yours.

Call the police and file a hit and run accident report, using the info gained from mall security. Ask them if they can make you a copy of the tape.

Then call your insurance company and they will instruct you as to how to proceed.

Do not do any work to your car yourself. Call the police. Have them get the report and tape from mall security. They will deal with the other driver. Contact your insurance company and give them the mall security report, the tape (if possible) and the police report. They will do the rest. Her insurance should pay for everything to be fixed professionally. If she does not have insurance, your policy should pick up the cost less your deductible. Your premiums should not go up from this.

Stop being nice and feeling bad. This woman damaged your property and then didn't care enough to even stick around. You did nothing wrong, SHE did. Don't feel bad at all for doing what is necessary to get your car fixed properly and the least cost to you.

I agree -- and I bet yours wasn't the first one she hit!
