I'm pretty geeky over the Lewis and Clark Expedition and almost everything about the U.S. expansion westward (Native Americans, building the transcontinental railroad, etc). On the contrary, being that I grew up in the South, I've learned enough about the Civil War to have no need to ever study it again. lol

What's your favorite part of history?

World War I through World War II. I think there's an awful lot of lessons to be learned there and some pretty amazing accomplishments under the worst of conditions.

Civil War. I don't know why, but it interests me to no end.

Both the Civil War and the Revolutionary/Colonial Period. But it's not so much the history of it as the culture, I am more interested in how they lived, what they wore, than what happened. I am only interested in what happened as it impacted their culture, if that makes sense.

I love the Revolutionary Time and WW 1 and 2. If I could go back in time, I'd so go back to the colonial era and live in Boston. :thumbsup2

I totally understand. I love the social aspects of certain periods of history. Too often textbooks just give you the "cleaned up" version of what really happened.

I love reading about World War 2 as well. I really love the book "Where the Birds Never Sing" and anything about the planning of D-Day.

Probably the Spanish American War era. Odd, but I love studying about the influence Pulitzer and Hearst had in creating a war movement in the country. I tend to focus more on the social influences of history rather than specific battles, military tactics, etc. I am a true history geek.

California gold rush is also very interesting.

I love history.

In order of interest:

1. Early Church times to the Reformation
2. Civil Rights movement
3. Slavery/Civil War
4. Pilgrims

If I could go back to the time of the goldrush, I'd open me a store selling shovels, pickaxes, and pans. I'd be rich. :)

Medieval England and czarist Russia. Both fascinate me. Also, France around the time of the revolution. I have actually been able to travel to England and am going to France in 2008. Russia is still pending - maybe if I stop spending money on Disney I'll be able to afford it someday.

Boy, that's a tough one. Teaching World History some of it seems much more interesting than other parts. I started to put down an answer but really can't decide. There are indeed parts that don't interest me, but favorite is tough.

I'd have to say the gold rush and the settlement of the west- gunslinger years and all. I've been to so many ghost towns and walking among all that history really makes me wnat to know more about what life was like.
Bodie State Park is probably one of the most interesting places I've been.

The Roman Republic/Empire is another area of particular interest to me. The transition from republic to empire and the "rise and fall" ;)

Anything British, but the 16th-19th centuries are particular favorites.

I love history, but do not have a favorite period. My history reading is influenced by the trips that I have planned. I have been reading about Mayan history in preparation for a March trip to Belize and Guatemala.

I have read quite a bit of French history, as well as the histories of China, Russia, Britain, Brazil, and the modern Olympic Games. I was a history major in college and focused on modern China with special emphasis on the "two China" issue. My thesis explored the two China issue in the context of the Olympic Games.

I'm facinated by late 19th, early 20th century NY, during the hey day of Ellis Island. Just imagine all those different cultures clustered together in that one little area! I've been reading tons of historical fiction lately....about Italians, Irish, German, Jews of various orgins, etc.

I'm also into the 30s and 40s. I've read lots of WWII area stories.

Me too. As well as Scottish history and music.

I'm also interested in Plymouth and the pilgrims.

I love the Victorian era through post WWII. Focusing mostly on the effects of war on culture.
