Thinking about the beginning of August next year (2014) and wondering historically if there are ever and discounts?

Thanks

Yes, but historically the discounts are better in the second half of August after Florida kids are back in school. Parks are less crowded then, too.

I have been the last 2 weeks in August several times and gotten great deals, either FD or room rate deals. My time is restricted for this coming trip due to HS starting for my eldest.....Hence the need for a trip starting around Aug 8th.

I am the same as you. We've only been once before (lol 7 years ago) and we went the last week of August with great deals. From what I see on the sites that show past discounts the better ones are near the end of the month. We are finally returning August 2014, but will need to look into the same week as you, or at least before the 13th as my youngest turns three August 13 so I wouldn't save much no matter the discounts if I go after that date. I'm just hoping something pops up, we're planning rack rate, but I cringe at the thought of following through with it.

I agree that better crowd levels and deals are typical the last two weeks of August; but this past August was the first time in several years that a general public free dining offer was not offerred for any dates in August.

2011 FD started 8/19
2012 FD started 8/25
2013 FD started 9/2

See a trend? Basically, most of the northern states kept on going down during the last two weeks in August.

Still there has been some good room discounts during the last two weeks...

For our family and where we have stayed the difference between FD and a room discount was only $50.

2A, 2C would make it a wash when staying at a mod, or room discount is better if staying a deluxe, depending on the discount.

2A, 1Jr, 1C would almost be a wash if staying at a deluxe.

But for example 2A, 2Jr, FD saves you more if staying at a deluxe.

I certainly see the trend with the FD window getting smaller and smaller. Getting FD in August was a big saver for my family of six because we are pretty much limited to the value resorts with our budget since we need two rooms or a suite; and a room only discount isn't as big for us as FD. Also, with going in late August our kids didn't have to miss school since our August 2011 trip was the week before they started back. We didn't like the August weather (90 degrees everyday with heavy humidity and heavy downpours every afternoon); but the lower crowds, FD, and our kids not missing school definitely made it worth it.

I have to say the last 2 times we have visited the last week in August I felt like it was just as crazy as the week we did April Vacation.
