Historical record of points/night

So we're looking into buying resale at the Wilderness Lodge. I have looked at how many points we would need per night, different times of the year, etc., trying to decide how many points we should buy.

Have the numbers needed to stay, for example, one week, changed much over the years? I keep reading how people ended up buying more points, is it because Disney keeps increasing the no. of points needed to stay? Or is it just owners deciding they want to come more often? In other words, has it always been 12 points to stay in a studio during January? Or has it gone up from years past?

Points are set. Disney has the option to redistribute them - and did once at OKW when the resort first opened. But they haven't in the decade plus since then. Easter and Thanksgiving points move around, but generally speaking, a week in September will be the same number of points ten years from now as it is now.

Cruises and non-DVC options do change.

People buy more points because DVC and Disney can be habit forming.

It's the latter. The total number of points on a points chart for a resort can never change. They can change things up a bit (upping one and lowering another), but this is rare. The only thing that really changes are the date for the seasons.

As holidays move around (like Easter and Thanksgiving), the points around those days will increase. Then other days will decrease. There are only so many points available. If they decide to raise points required for a studio in October, they would have to lower something else the same number of points elsewhere during the year.
