Not to create any panic but here are the weather conditions seen since 1998. We are roughly 30 days out so it is a good idea to think through your plans for dealing with Race Morning Weather.

The low roughly equates to race start or about an hour into the race. The Mean is a good guess of the finish temps for the full and the half finish temps somewhere between the Mean and the Low. Note that the races were held as one in 2005 and earlier, so only one observation.

So what does this mean.....

The race temps at the start have ranged from a balmy 63F down to a 27F. Finish temps have ranged from around 74F down to less than 35F. For planning purposes... The average temperature gain through the race is about 11F....

Thanks Coach, Will never forget marathon 2010....I go all the way to Florida to be told to watch for black ice:scared1:

We are being told in my neck of the woods it will be a warmer and milder winter so if that holds true Florida should as well since they are right below us and depending on the jet stream it might be a really nice marathon weekend this year. Or at least one can always hope.:yay:

I am sticking with the long term average for the first week of January.... Lows in the low 50's and dark with high's in the low 70's.

I was recently thinking about weather condidtions for the race. Thanks for posting.

I'm just hoping we won't have a repeat of 2007. I knew it wasn't going to be good for me when I was sweating at the start (high himidity!). :scared:

Thanks for posting, Coach. Hoping for some cool weather.

2007 was my first (and only) full marathon- just not a fun time all around - at least for me!

Agree 07 was too warm and 10 was way to cold. Last year was nice. I am hoping for lows of mid 60's and highs of mid to high 70's. I can dream can't I:lmao:

Thank you for posting, Coach. I am much more concerned about heat than cold. I'm a northern girl, so I know I can handle the cold. When we went down in 2010, we had been running trails in the snow. While we would have liked it to be a little warmer, at least we knew what to do. I felt so bad for all the people wearing fleece: within an hour all their sweat was freezing up on their shoulders. It looked miserable to be coated in ice.

The only thing about the cold that I wouldn't want to repeat was the mess at the water stations. I'm a back-of-the-packer, so by the time I came through, the water stations were a massive sheet of ice. After a while somebody got smart and started spreading sand, but the first few were truly treacherous. And don't even get me started on running through the frozen banana mush!!

Here's to perfect weather for all of us in 2012!!:cheer2:

Is this a personal database or is there a link out there, Coach? I'm sure people will eventually ask, but I'm curious about this same data for February's Princess.

Also - your posts rock! Thanks so much.

My vote is race start about 45 degrees, warming up to 60 by the end of each race, then a temp spike up to about 80 while I'm enjoying my park time after! :goodvibes

Last year was perfect! Here's hoping for a repeat. We are staying at YC, so I'd love to be able to get some pool time in.
Can't believe it's only a month away!!!! :yay:
